Really how difficult is it to enter the correct wind direction on wundergrounds website?
This morning and still says W all day long...the real time or current shows straight out of the N. It was straight out of the North this morning. Might have been the reason for no shows, who knows.

Last week I was deciding where to sit and the hour by hour forecast on there showed a Southeast wind all day and the Summary showed a NW wind.

I was excited to see what a month of my trail cam showed. It only lasted a week out there until a bear decided to twist it around the tree and face it toward another tree. Lol. I repositioned about a 1/2 mile away on a long scrape line and hopes that the albino buck that I saw last year lived and it's now a decent 8 point or so. That would make my season.

Just remember, these are the same people who constantly predict "climate disaster!"

Seems none of them can get it right! Try windy.com, it seems to be a little better and you can find your own property by zooming in. Shows you real time and you can fast forward and go back to.

Well At 12:33 I almost dropped a nice 8. My breaking foot is still quick on the draw though. I was just coming up on where one of my husband's guys (crew) lives. Out of a tiny thick patch between his house the road and farm field out pops a doe and hot on her a nice wide 8. She ducked into a row of golden rod separating field sections and he stopped at 60 yrds as I stopped the car. I rolled down the window bleated then snort wheeze at him. He didn't react but she jumped up like kangaroo and continued down the row of golden rod...he was instantly on her ...So I best start thinking more on my 9-2 hunts..That is only 21/2 to 3 miles from us as the crow fly.
Got my tags, could not get ML, they don't take cards now and I don't ever carry cash. I also didn't have my bank card to get cash. I take this as a sign..I may fill my tag with compound before the 6. Just finished lunch and will head out soon. Not sure where, I did pick a few milk weed pods on the way home this a.m.

Do this in 2 posts so as not to be long winded.

Got to the property and there were quite a few what appeared to be antlerless derr in the fields, mainly cut corn. Nearest field to where I'm hunting is still standing beans unfortunately.

Get in stand with 40 minutes until legal. Try everything to get a signal on phone to no avail. Right at legal I hear what I believe was a rabbit bawling out, freaked me out at first as it sounded almost humanly when I first heard it. Not sure if owls hunt early morning or possibly bobcat or coyote, didn't hear any coyotes celebrating though.

Anyhow, as the greys started turning to greens, yellows and oranges I started looking around and realizing just how much the property has changed since my uncles passing 3 1/2 years ago and the year leading up to as he was in and out of hospitals.

He mowed strategically, not only to keeps weeds down around all the stand sites but he'd mow path toward the property lines and under the since decomissioned transmission lines. He'd mow into small islands of trees to keep it opened up. Everything is now overgrown and basically turning into bedding. I wish I had the means and resources to do it myself.

About 7:25 I heard a deer well off in the distance start blowing, pretty sure it was on neighboring property as I was only one hunting. Just before 8 looked south, facing east, and seen a doe step out about 35 yds away. I'm turned just enough to see her but eyes are straining too hard to watch her

Look down and get release clipped on loop and slowly turn head to be able to see her. She's head bobbing but not stomping or freaking out. She finally turns and starts walking the other way and a fawn steps out and follows her. Breeze shifts to more north than west and another deer still inside the woods starts blowing. The other two white flag it into the woods and they disappear. About 35 minutes later another deer starts blowing from the opposite property, almost certain it was the same deer blowing all 3 times, may need to call @LittleChief to dispose of the wench.

I'd seen enough by 10 and climbed down, just a bit too early for all day sits there.

On my way out I bumped a doe. She took off down the uphill of the motocross track so I snuck down the down hill. If I would have been able to move a little quicker and stay quiet I would of had a 30 yard shot. I had her at 45 but she turned and went the opposite way.

So after climbing down I wanted to check the scrape from last year to see if it was opened back up, wanted to hang a camera on it if so. Get there and there's two fresh scrapes again, although size isn't as big as last year, but was later in season when I found it.

Nobody hunts this area, ever. We walk down it to get to NW corner of property but no one has ever set a stand or ground blind. Until now. Ended up making up a makeshift ground blind about 15 yss away on other side of trail. Steep bank of shallow creek directly behind me so not worried about something coming up behind me, but maybe something uses that creek to travel as well.

Didn't hang the camera as I figured why put even more intrusion in the area. Have to see when I hunt it, south wind would be great, but swirls so much down there no telling what wind I need. I scraped the ground clean so I can move around a bit quietly. My luck something will come up to try and browse

Nothing for me. Tried a new spot, got a good scout on and hung some cams found a huge buck bed on a swampy island , it’s torn up with big rubs. Hope to see the resident.

I get 3 weeks vacation a year, so if I can manage to not use any for a year, or almost a year, I may try to use a week next August and rent a brush hog for a week and recreate what my uncle had. I know exactly how it was because I watched deer use them for 10 years. Now it just gets mown inbthe easy open spots, which is great but the deer now steer around the old paths and stay in the woods until they need to come out. Usually out of range or downwind.
