Checked another cam and he was there on 8/25... He's in the area sometimes at least and not just passing through. No idea how I'm going to put a plan together for this deer.

Urban Hunts opened up today. The town I am hunting is about an hour away from where I live, too far for an after work hunt. I have a buddy that is still new to bowhunting heading out for the evening. He lives a lot closer to the town with the urban hunt than I do. Another buddy that is off work today shot a doe this morning. I am hoping I can get down there with the long weekend.

This was from back in 2016 on opening day. It almost happened only needed a few more minutes til he passed closer. I got busted by a button buck and he cleared the whole field. I had around 15 bucks around me that night all under 40 yards. It was a night I will never forget. I have taken a few small velvet bucks before, but nothing big. 20160909_214140.jpg

Thats the type of deer that I would lose all bodily functions trying to shoot. No way I could hold my composure!

Yeah that deer had me on edge for 2 1/2 months. I finally was able to take him and did it while on live from the stand thread. He was my once-in-a-lifetime buck. I'm kind of glad I didn't shot him that night in velvet, I like hard antler bucks better for some reason.

I haven’t shot a velvet deer yet. It’s on the list. They just look so much bigger! I do like the color and character on the hard antler though!

Getting a deer in velvet was always a goal… realized that goal in 2018 in Kentucky… one happy camper IMG_2614.JPG

Back in March we were begging for this day, it's September 1st. Smile people we're 30 days or less, for most, to have the option of hunting or not.

Highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's here next few days. Going to get the oil changed, front brakes replaced, wiper blades replaced and hopefully headlights swapped out this weekend. Spark plugs are due as well.

In other words I get to spend the weekend being a contortionist

It was 50° here this morning, a jacket would've felt pretty good had I bothered to grab one. Definitely starting to feel like hunting season.
In another week I'll be chasing elk. Kind of got screwed out of taking a week off due to work, so will just be a weekend warrior this year for elk.
