Just a large Tom and a hen so far. First time ever seeing turkeys in the woods.

Was in the stand an hour and 15 before sunrise. Weatherman wasn’t lying. It is DEAD calm. Light fog setting in over the tree tops. It’s going to be a beautiful morning.

Just had a great encounter with my #1. Being so dark and overcast I didn’t know it was him until he was right on top of me. Tried to stop him a couple times. Every time he stopped I didn’t have a shot.
He was following doe and yearling. I’m set up in the swamp/flooded timber near the bedding area.

Light fog has turned into dense fog. Hope it burns off quick once the sun comes up.

In clean...except for boogering 2 roasted turkeys 1/4mi up the trail. I set up 20yds from a roasted hen. ML season opens today, donning the pumpkin orange hat.

Supposed to have a steady SW wind, but it's a bit fickle.

    Damn squirrels...

Now it’s really coming down… glad I finally have free time to get out in the woods and the rain decides to screw me.

I've seen 4 already. Had a Mexican standoff with a nice buck walking in this morning. Less than 10 yards, me with a estrus drag rag. He finally walked off. Saw 2 right at shooting light and had a doe walk right under me.

In the first 30 minutes of light I've seen 2 lone does and heard a a gobble! I love spring turkey hunting. I always have a fall turkey license in case 1 walks by.

Moved to an enclosed stand, so much better. Now just gotta wait for this damn rain to stop then it’s on.

I’m in the same tree where I shot the biggest buck of my life the shot was terrible and did not find the buck he probably was pushing 165” of bone. That has been 8 years ago and I have been replying that shot all morning as I sit here and look at that spot where he was standing. I still get sick to my stomach just thanking about it.
