Well there is a reason I chose oldnotdead
Winds woke me twice last night. Alarm went off and no need to open window,it was howling out.
Standing water in woods from rains
    Rains all summer
    Gypsy moth defoliation all summer,,
mature trees look like tooth picks in a blender.

No thank you, 1 1/2 inch more rain on the way later.

My ears have a love hate relationship with stocking caps. Nothing better than listening on a calm morning… nothing worse than frozen ears. I love how much better I can hear without one on.

Jeff, he prefers a good nutty scratch:lol:.

Just breaking daylight here and I'm pouting. Just added some dry spruce in the wood stove. Believe it of not, I swear to God that deer are attracted and calmed by wood smoke. Seen many deer come by in bow range when a good plume of smoke is driftingoutta the stack.

Once I get through this work day, I'll be in the stand. Taking the rattling horns tonight. Good luck morning crew! These are the days.

Almost got a shot at a nice lone doe. She wandered off so I decided to rattle for the entertainment. 6 pt came running in on a string. First deer I’ve ever rattled in. He circled this area about 3 times looking for a fight.

That fawn that came in to my tree was alone. I figured mom would be by as well.

Rains due at 10 not 3 now not ending until later Sunday.
    GOOD NEWS
NO RAIN all next week through to Sunday evening. Temps mid to low 40's day mid to low 30's at night. Now up here we run colder so high 20's some nights, high 30's some days.

Heard a deer raking willows breaking branches. Grunted at it and 4pt came to 30. Very big bodied deer chasing in the neighbors field about 500 yards away. Caught a glimpse while watching the 4pt no chance to get the binos up.

Surprisingly slow here this morning. 6 does (no fawns) and just the one buck so far.

I just checked the weather and saw the temps for next week, West wind for Monday, 33 degrees, sunny, and came up with my plan. I'm going deep this afternoon to bring in my roll-up deer sled and climber platform to stash at the bottom of the ridge. I haven't been there since last November, I'd like to make sure there are no signs of hunters, and everything is still good, i.e., no big trees down, storm damage etc. I'll still hunt back to my usual area and hunt from the ground for the evening.

Just got a text from my dad, "Thought you'd be out here this morning. I'm here now, gonna take a walk"

Me: decided to sleep in, lack of sleep the past few nights, didn't want to get burned out. I'll be there around 1 to head deep to stash some stuff, still hunt my way back

Dad: Ok, I'll meet you at the jeeps at 1
