Just had a deer off about 100 yards. I believe it was a buck. But wasn't able to get binos out to confirm. It left into the thick stuff. Hopefully it'll circle around and show itself to me.

I know the pressure you are feeling. I've been in your shoes on my Illinois rut hunts. You're on an emotional roller coaster brother. The deer aren't pressured so you're seeing them more, but you gotta remember, they are still deer with the same survival instincts all deer possess. Hunt it like you are on regular public land you've grown up hunting, and expect the same type of deer behavior. If you do go scouting at midday, don't dismiss good sign you find to find the more perfect sign (it doesn't exist). Limit your scent dispersal while scouting. keep your intrusion to a minimum. Do you have grid coordinates you could share so some of us could pull it up on a USGS topo map? At this point, I would find a good travel corridor/funnel, set up shop, put your time in there, and ignore all the creeping in self-doubt/second guessing voices in your head.

Clear your mind, channel your inner killer and ask yourself..."If I had two days to hunt this land, where would I be?" Trust your gut, your experience, and spend the rest of your time there. You got this brother!!!!

Alright talked myself out of going after backup… going to do my scouting like I planned, then if that doesn’t pan out I’m going to sit on the gasline tonight , that’s the only spot I’ve had a big buck on camera anywhere close to daylight

Not to worry, it's pre rut. I've intentionally made noise walking into a stand before during this time and had bucks running up to me checking out the noise. I also hit the can call a few times while walking in.
    Get ready... you never know!

Buddy it sounded like I was intoxicated and banging pots off my head!

This once in a generation buck was killed on this public land 4 yrs ago, not 2 miles from me. Followed a doe off private prop and was shot. Unreal.

Doing some Google Map scouting on a piece of public just to the north of us (300 yards to our north). Granted these maps aren't up to date, the idea remains the same. Those are trails running from point to point through that cattail swamp. Can almost guarantee there will be cruising bucks going from block of woods to block of woods the next few weeks.

Good movement so far this morning, lots of does and fawns. Two bucks. One was a shooter trailing a doe about 50 yards out.

Just had a spike come in. He got to about 60 yards and decided not to come any closer.

Thanks, it’s my little slice of heaven. It’s a chunk of big woods hunting at it’s best.

I’m packing up. Gonna head up to the house and get some things down before coming back out this afternoon. Good luck to anyone still out!

Writing my papers still! I almost have one of them done, a literature review of existing literature on Military Sexual Trauma.

I'm also game-planning for the upcoming madness that is almost upon us! I'm gonna go stash some stuff deep on Sunday, A deer sled (To get my buck to the cart road) and one of my climber platforms. I forgot I had a big back pack to carry in my cold weather gear, so stashing a platform will shed 8 pounds from my load in.

I think I'll be out Saturday morning for a few hours to hunt, and prep some stuff for my rut hunts when my dad is in the woods with me. He went out the other day and made a few natural ground blinds. I really wish he would have waited for me, I want him to actually see deer!!

Adam. One more thing to think about. By the time you are done hunting on that spot, you will be entering the best 3 weeks of the hunting season.. Your head should be up and driving forward.

Now that I think about it, the guy has killed more deer in those woods than I have.
