Man that was an awesome sit!! Those two bucks hung around chasing after just about every doe there was, ended up seeing 13 deer and when I got to the base of my tree and had my red headlamp on a doe came up to about 5 yards and was checking me out lol! One of the best days hunting I’ve ever had, I’ll be back after it in the morning, hoping to catch a big guy heading back to bed a little late. If I don’t get it done in the AM I’m thinking I’ll set up somewhere new in the evening see if I can get on one of these big guys

I didn't hunt this past weekend. I've been reading along. Congratulations killerz! Especially the double doe and BIG time to the young lady - super awesome.

Oh, and BELATED congratulations to bucksnbear...Tango down!

Tonight I cleaned up the yard. It was a beautiful night. Did the work so I can be LIVE from the stand the next 5 days.
IMO October 20 is when the bucks start moving and the prerut begins.

I'm going to plant some winter peas in select areas where the farmer chopped corn and the ground is nearly bare. Can't believe I haven't thought about planting "food plots" in this manner before. I could have planted stuff a month ago. Anyone else try this?

Looking forward to the next 4 weeks.

It is rough at times and is humbling every time I go out. However, it's how I was raised hunting. Every encounter is earned and has meaning. I have several thousands of acres at my disposal. The deer population is the lowest in the state, but there are GIANTS in there, though they are 99.8% nocturnal. They leave very little sign or evidence of their presence, no big rubs, hoof prints tell the story. Trail cameras, grunt tubes, or rattling let them know they are being hunted.

I just need to become a better hunter. If I put in half the effort I do during the season, into offseason work, I would be on them. That is why I try to never whine or complain, it is my own fault. I honestly could not hunt on private property unless it was huge. I am too used to having a large area. Even when I owned my 40 acres, I felt penned up, and missed the big woods. Perhaps this rut I will connect on a big boy and that will keep my motivation burning to get me out there in the offseason.

I enjoy both public and private land equally, for completely different reasons. I never want to give up either style.

now that's good intel. Also, full moon (or just was full) so supporting the when the moon is overhead/underfoot deer will move.

Friday shows moon underfoot at 3:20pm ET. I will do my damndest to be in the woods. Going to hit the road really early Friday AM.

About to walk in, good luck today.

Not the chill of yesterday but it's a cool 45 degrees.

High hopes for a BLOODY ARROW.
