Good luck out there this morning.

I'm headed to the VA hospital to have labs drawn for my annual appointment. Fun times.

In a tree again today. Just so much more enjoyable being in a tree over hunting from the ground... maybe it’s just the bow hunter in me... this week has definitely gotten me excited to get back to bow hunting next year. Working on finding me a new lease, got a line on 65 acres In Missouri, so hoping that goes through and I’ll be bow hunting mo next year, and Iowa public land for shotgun...

Well other than doing some coyote calling, and perhaps a cougar or bobcat showing up while doing that, my season is over until Spring.
Deer tag is filled, all seasons for my elk tag have ended pretty much. There is one more weekend I could hunt for spike only with the muzzleloader, but I have family stuff I'd rather do this weekend over the finding a spike-in-a-haystack option they give us.
Good luck to the rest of you with valid tags still in your pocket!

    Well crap. Today sucks.

I got my labs drawn and the doc called me about 2 hours later for the phone appointment. Nothing too bad. I have a vitamin D deficiency and now I have high cholesterol so I have to start taking some cholesterol medicine and stop eating a lot of the things I love.

I was planning on getting back on stand this afternoon, but that's going to have to wait a day or two. We're going to have to take our 16 year old black lab mix in to have her put to sleep. It's been coming for a while but she's in really bad shape now. The poor dog is totally deaf, almost blind, has dementia and has some kind of cancer in her throat that makes her gag and throw up all the time.

I'd have had it done already but it had to wait until my wife was ready to admit it needed to be done and accept it. We'll be heading to the vet at about 3:15.

Sorry to hear about the dog. She may need a chunk of backstrap before you take her.

    It'll get better.

Sorry to hear about the dog. I've got one that's nearing the end too. I ask her often, if it's time yet to dig the hole.

Stay tough LC. These things seem to cluster slap us in the face when we are already down.

I know what you're going through. It sucks!!! I had a similar deal with my chocolate lab in March. They become part of your family and it's soooo tough to do the right thing by releiving them of their misery. I still find myself walking in the door and expecting a friendly greeting from him. Good luck and remember she will be in a better place.

Actually Madison (that’s her name by the way) won’t touch venison any more. There is very little she will eat.

We did fry up some bacon (since it looks like I don’t get it any more) and she ate almost the entire package.

As we fed it to her the other 5 dogs stood around watching and drooled all over the floor.

    Sad for you LC

    Congratulations to the shooters

A hardy high 5 to those with the determination to keep on keeping on. I dont have much hope at getting a buck this season. It's easier for me to hunt when I think ...so you're saying there's a chance! MI gun season ends Sunday. I'll be only shooting bucks the next 5 days. After that, I'll go back on doe patrol. I'm out tonight. Who knows, maybe I'll hit the lottery.

It's done. Thanks for the kind words guys.

We got home, I put a couple burgers on the grill for us and then I updated the scorecard.

One odd thing. I've often wondered how the rest of the pack reacts to things like this. I know they don't think like we do but as my wife was browning some dog grind for them I came in from prepping the grill and all five of the other dogs were just lying there moping with their heads on their paws. Rico didn't even want to eat, which is very unusual.

    I'm convinced they know.

I'm going to sit tomorrow morning out and then I'll climb a tree again tomorrow afternoon. Good luck to anyone heading out tomorrow.

Yeah, I just took a pretty good kick in the nads tonight...i can't share it yet as it will most likely involve litigation...

If you're so inclined, an unspoken prayer request for the Lee family would be kindly appreciated.
