Question for you guys. Has anyone ever had their prusic knot on your safety line freeze? My did this morning and I didn't think I was going to be able to get it loose. I had to climb up a few steps and get hold of it from the bottom. It took quite an effort to get it to break free. Never had that happen before.

I have never had that problem. I wish it was cold enough when I hunt that I had to be concerned about it.

Ive seen six does/fawns so far.

A half hour before daylight four walked right by in the moonlight. I could see them clearly.

About 45 minutes ago something chased two does out of the cut-over but they didn’t get close enough.

I spent the last 15 minutes watching a small flock of turkeys feed by just out of range.

Oh, and the sunlight is just starting to hit the platform of my Summit Viper and the frost on it is beginning to melt finally.

I hate the frost covered platform.

That happened to me last year. We had gotten freezing rain the afternoon before, and then it got cold that night.
Nothing short of a torch was going to break it loose. Since I had the muzzleloader with me I just decided to do some still-hunting that morning.

You reminded me that I wanted to rig up something that could be placed over it so it wouldn't happen again. Haven't really come up with anything yet. My first thought was to wrap it with some cloth, but it would have to be bungee'd on or something so it would still come off when it was also frozen.

I think HSS sells a bell shaped rubber thing that is meant to keep the caribbeaner from making noise cause it fits over the top of it. That might work for keeping the rain off a little.

    Waxed cardboard. Cheap, replaceable, bungee-able.

Yea my lifeline has those on it (mine is a double for a double ladder stand). Doesn't do a thing to keep the prusik knot from freezing because the cowbell cover is installed on the short lead going to the carabiner, below the prusik knot. I also think adding another one to the lifeline so it came down over the prusik knot would just be annoying to deal with when sliding it and the knot up/down the line. I haven't looked around much yet but would like to find something that is just easily removed.

I had that happen last year. I had to take a handwarmer and hold it to the prusic knot for about 5 minutes. Not sure about a fix. My line also had the bell cover on it but it doesn't protect the knot itself.

I up for the evening! Think it's the coldest day of the year. Got high winds and I walk about 1 1/2 miles back on public during rifle season. I might be crazy, but I brought the old stick bow with me. I have yet to kill a deer with it, but how my season is going, why not! Any deer goes except fawns and buttons. If a spike walks by tonight, he's getting wacked!

All set up for the afternoon.

I was going to shift trees when I got here but walking in I just felt like the tree I was in the last two sits was money this afternoon so I’m back up that tree.

I do hate it though. It’s some kind of oak with rough, knotty rock-hard bark and it’s a push beast of a tree to climb. It’s the only tree big enough to climb that lets me cover this trail though so it’ll have to do.
