I’m out. Didn’t see anything, again! I’ll wait until late season.

I’m all set up for an evening doe patrol sit.

I just got set up and seated and looked up to see a young buck chasing a doe along the north side of my place.

    Could be a good afternoon.

Don't get much time to hunt anymore seems like. So when the kids swim meet and volleyball practice got canceled I text the wife I was going to sit in a tree. She called me an idiot. 28° out. Wind chill feels like 19°. Hour and a half to go. Saw small 8 and a doe already. 20201201_160326.jpeg

Gun season right now, but I still hunt with my bow. Heard 4 shots in last half hour. Must be up and moving.

Had a single deer run along the ridge across the gulley about 90 yards away. I couldn’t tell what it was and never saw what it was running from.

A group of six does just walked the same path followed by a funky-rack buck I call Trump.

Buddy saw a good buck moving 1.5 hrs before sundown today looking for food as the temps dropped. Good sign for you if you are hunting this week Finny!

I'm down and back home. Just before dark another buck walked the same path. He's a big bodied 5 point that was always Trump's running buddy during the early season. Those two were always on camera together on both sides of the road. I always called them Trump and 5-Spot.

Anyway, maybe a few of the does will walk by going back to bedding in the morning.

By the way, I’ve referred to the buck I call Trump a few times. Just in case you don’t already know (I’ve explained it before) and are wondering why I’d call a scrub buck “Trump”, it’s because of his impeccable “comb-over”.

This is a screen shot of an iPhone video I took of him walking straight to me a couple of days ago. It should explain everything:

Love the name Trump for a funky racked deer, cause let's be honest...

Maybe his side kick should've been Pence.

    Nah, I couldn’t do that.

I know that is a young buck but he’s a big bodied deer. I didn’t realize just how big-bodied he was until just after I shot that video.

It’ll be interesting to see if he sprouts a normal rack next season.

A five point named 5-pence that runs around with Trump, I see what you did there.

All set up for a morning sit.

It’s a nice, crisp 25 degrees. It feels fantastic.

I'm all in this morning, albeit a little late. I didn't seem to bump anything on the walk in though. I'm trying several new pieces of hunting gear this morning, so I'm anxious to see how well they work. I've got a brand new set of Plythal full rut extreme jacket and bibs that I'm hoping will keep this 65yr old bones warm. I've also got an hss heated hand muff cause my hands getting cold is the worst. And finally, as most of you know, I am a member of that evil devil-worshipping crossbow shooting clan, so I recently purchased one of those elastic double slings. Carrying that crossbow on my shoulder with a single sling was a complete pain in the wazoo, so I hope this helps with that. Good luck to everyone out!
