Got out and pulled the camera and hung a stand in what I am calling “the bedroom” it’s a 2 acre stand of young pines a little over a mile in on public, had the camera out for a week and already had 20 some pictures of does in the morning, evening, and even mid day so I’m pretty sure this is going to be a great stand being that I believe the does are bedding in the pines and I am set up just outside of them! Put the cell cam up so I can monitor the movement without intruding and busting them out

Bruh....That sucks!! Hopefully, they can get you in surgery soon? I went through something similar with my wrist. Fell off the back of a tractor-trailer and snapped it in half sideways. They set it (I was under, I was not going to be awake for that), and my follow up appointment three weeks later, they said I needed plates, screws, and pins the next day at 0600. Had to go through all the initial pain all over again. I hope they can get you in soon!

I got down about 10 minutes ago. I'm already back at the house and changed out of my hunting clothes. :tu:

This afternoon I hunted the patch of woods that I thought for the past two years belonged to someone else but was actually mine. My wife and I walked around and looked at it about 10:00 am today.

My plan was to go about 35 yards into it and set up and observe. No does were going to be shot. If I saw nothing for a couple sits I'd move about 40 or 50 more yards in and try again.

About 20 minutes before dark three does came from the east. On the east side of my property there is an old cut-over. Anyway, the wind was out of the NE so it was in my favor, but that lead doe must have smelled where we walked around and started stomping and blowing. Then one of the others chimed in. I know they didn't smell me because they were working their way towards me. She must be a smart old girl.

I'll hunt the same tree tomorrow morning and then I'm going to change tactics and move to the edge of my property to cover the cut-over. If I see that group come out with a huge doe and I get a chance I'll break my rule and take her out. She needs to go.

    Jeez Carter!

I'm so sorry. You said you rolled it but I was thinking a bad sprain.

I sure hope you heal up well soon.

Thanks Brett! Not sure if I will hunt there opening day in PA or wait till the first cold front comes through in mid-late October, if I’m getting does on a regular basis and the freezer is empty it’ll be tempting, what are your thoughts would shooting a doe in there early in the season blow them out of there?

I dont blame you for wanting to get some meat. However, if you want to keep that place fresh for a first strike advantage, stay out until the temps/time are right to move in.....

Now, if you can project out where those does eat from that bedding and take one a couple hundred yards away, then go for it. Mentally and from experience, nothing beats the first sit in an unspoiled spot. Think of it as one of your growing spots of doe bedding areas that you can aggressively hunt when the time is right. Those spots on public land are precious....not to mean not to be aggressive toward them, but if your goal is to kill a buck I would wait. If your goal is meat, go for it!

Alright. I got that one out of my system, but I learned something about the evening pattern here; there isn't one. There really is no real food draw to this place. Gonna switch gears and focus on the new farm and get out to scout it on foot before the beans start to yellow up. I might not hunt another evening hunt till I get that sorted out and that is an hour plus haul to the farm. Idk. I could be full of crap too.

Well apparently I shouldn’t have been so confident. I literally thought I heart shot her but the arrow told me different. Did have decent blood and found a couple beds, but definitely not the shot I thought it was. Must’ve been just a touch low. Leaving her lay and heading out tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed! I’m at a loss right now, but hopeful I’ll get her tomorrow (hopefully before the coyotes and weather).
