Hey everyone. Stands are set, cameras running. Ill be in a tree looking for bear starting Sept 1. Be in NJ starting Sept 12 for the deer opener and then Oct 1 for the VT opener.
Kids are stoked and been practicing, my older daughter will be in a tree this year with a compound on her own. My two boys will be on the ground with cross bows. Can't wait, gonna be a fun year.
I'm just excited about these. We don't normally have any decent sized antlers around here. Hope they stick around for another month... *** Time on camera is wrong***
I will be in the stand September 9 after a bear. Hoping to put one down with my bow! Have a couple coming in to the bait so we'll see what happens, it'll be my first bear so really hoping it all works out. September 12 is the bow season opener here, so that's coming right up!
I haven't checked my cams yet this week. Heat index close to 100 with insane dew points/humidity. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since I checked them last. Have my mobile set up ready to go. Just have to pick my tree for opening day. 24 days.
What a crazy chain of events. I went fishing today. About an hr and a half I slipped bad in the river and tossed my pole about 20 feet into the river. I let out a loud noise and heard a rustle on an island in the river. Started looking for my pole and couldnt find it as it hit some mini Rapids. First time in my life I have ever done that. So I start making my way across the river and see a massive buck jump off a 40 yard long island. I got a few pics of him and was so excited. This is public land but no hunting allowed. Within 200 yrs there are large tracts of private land. The buck I took a pic of was really big in my hunting world. So I make my way to the island and I hear a loud noise. Out jumps a frigging monster. Biggest buck I've ever seen in my life. I know they look bigger in velvet but my God he was enormous body size wise and rack wise. He put the buck I was able to take a pic of to shame..by the tune of 30 inches. Easy. Good 2 feet wide or close. I found both there beds. Maybe me losing my pole was for a reason. I'm going to check surrounding land owners and try to hunt there. I'm so going to throw out some trail cams just to get a picture of him. Even if I cant hunt him I'd love to have a pic. Here is the "smaller" buck. The island they were bedded on...and the beds.
Yes, last Halloween night. Much of the damaged area is a lot thicker now, which I think will provide more browse and cover.
