With as poorly as IL is ran, how can they get something right? Maybe they try to keep one demographic with a certain pastime? I can kill 2 bucks every year and 400 does if I so choose. Oct. 1st until the weekend before Thanksgiving with the bow, then 3 days later back to the bow for 10 days. Illinois, go figure...
Not sure how I missed that question, but my answer would be a sloth. Worst year ever for many things and it just crawls along.
Well, I had a helluva hunt tonight. 2020 continues like the giant lamprey she is. Was covered in deer most of the night. 1630 Missed a doe at exactly 37 yards- ranged her, dialed in my pin at 37 and held a touch low on her heart and missed her low by an inch. Hour later nice 120ish 8 comes in dogging a doe, he zigs back and forth making me come to full draw twice before he stops literally less than 2 yards from my glowing nock still buried in the dirt from the doe- I hold a touch high due to the last shot being low and let fly, hit him exactly where I am aiming which is to say high shoulderish. Could go into more details but I got a pass through, an arrow covered in fat, a smattering of bright red blood and hair and fat gobs for 75 yards, then nothing...spiral searched for an hour after last blood with no results. There's very little undergrowth here so you can see really well with spotlights. Thinking he's probably alive but will be on doe patrol in the AM then search again but I am hoping non lethal hit. But the way he ran into every dang small tree while he was in sight and even smack into a mature oak when he was out of sight...dang he was acting like he was crushed. Goddamn this sucks. I never would have held high if it wasn't for the low miss on that doe.
Headed out! Didn’t have it in me by the time I got home to update how the evening went. We scouted some new great stuff out. Jumped a giant buck who didn’t know what we were. He even came back to investigate us. He was broadside at 40 yds and I couldn’t grab my bow out of the canoe fast enough. By the time I did I had no shot. Spent the rest of the afternoon trying to set up in there. A spike busted us and blew the alarm lol. It was cool encounter anyway. I bet that buck had 14” G2’s. I didn’t come home empty handed though! Good luck all who are out! I know where I’m at a lot are locked down. There’s a buck by my house has a doe out in middle of standing bean field for 3 days straight now.
Up and at em! Making coffee and breakfast and will be on the road soon. Feeling really good about today. Good luck to everyone out today. Be safe and see you on stand! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
All setup. Wet... treestand umbrella is setup. Got turned around pretty good coming to this spot. 45 minutes till shootable light.
Getting ready to head in. Have today and tomorrow off work. Not feeling real motivated today which is odd. Planning on sitting on the ground for a few hours and then find a tree to climb with the climber. Good luck to all that are out
Fog had a lot to do with me getting turned around. Jumped something big as I passed the scene of the buttshot. One Deep blow and some crashing and it was gone. Same thing happened in the same spot with the same fog the day I shot my last buck in the butt.
