Great day! I just saw at least 3 more deer in the thick stuff. The last one must have been a buck because he was big bodied and was pushing the other deer around. Man, I wish I could stay all day. I have to leave in 45 min to go to work and help some Airmen move dorms on Veterans Day due to mold issues. Oh well, it’s what I signed up for. I’ll be back at them this evening :)

So I walked back in in the thick... it’s beautiful. Saw about 3 scrapes in a small area where 3 trials came together shots would be hard but I found a small pine tree that offered a few lanes.

However it’s down pouring I pulled out.

I effing hate the rain with a passion, almost as much as I hate the heat. It's gonna be a rough few days of getting damp/wet. I got my tree umbrella, and a poncho to cover me and my gear for the walk in and out. All packed and ready to go. Still not sure where I'm gonna setup at. The does can be anywhere in this couple thousand-acre woods that is littered with massive laurel patches.

Happy Veteran's Day! Good luck to everyone out.
Stuck at work. Not sure what's going to happen with my season right now. The rut is a week away but my property has been getting hammered with snow. I haven't made it up there but am hearing there is a foot and two feet is expected by the end of the weekend. The County road doesn't get maintained, so it drifts shut in short order.
I'm going to make an attempt to get up there and retrieve my blind, if it isn't destroyed, this Friday. The Grizzly 700 is going to get a workout. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll be breaking out the snowmobile early this year.
I may end up having to rifle hunt at a lower elevation to fill my tag (boring). The lower elevation places I have access to are all wide open canyon country, even a traditional muzzleloader doesn't have the reach needed.
If this weather holds this will be the first time in my 47 years that I've seen snow lock out the upper property before December.

Joe, be careful in that laurel. It's easy to get turned around, as everything looks exactly the same!

Just had a basket 8, 2 does, and a button buck come by like there was nothing going on.
    Good to see deer though.

Thanks! Yup, I've been turned around in the laurel many times!! I think I'm gonna stick to down wind edges of it today to try and catch a buck cruising/scent checking.

Been set up for about 1.5hr, could have hand to hand fought a 4 point I damn near walked right into, damn deer didn’t even care I was 10ft from him. Hadn’t even pulled my bow up and a small 8 walked by, then I rattled and one I’m letting go til next year ran right in.
Wind is all over the place, I may need to move soon.
Happy Veterans Day to all that served, let’s all try and get our free Veterans Day buck!

I'm sitting here reading when I should be in the woods. I'm feeling guilty, because I have cloudy skies and no wind, which are the hunting conditions I like best. I was just too comfy in my bed to get up at 3:30AM to be at my stand before first, only able to sit until noon, when the rain is supposed to start. I think I'm going to do a dark to dark on Friday though!

I guess I never thought of this but this would be an ideal spot for a get together![IMG]
Hunting is great, plenty of big bucks, lodging is very affordable, and everything is on base.

Just had the random doe come back. Then a grunting buck came by. Real nice 2 1/2 yr old. And, a younger buck.
