This could turn into something. There is a campground just 5 minutes down the road from me with 3000 acres of public attached to it. It's only a 2 hour drive from my house to get into sika. Also campgrounds right in sika country. Prime time for them is early to mid October. Last time I went I took a cow elk call and called in a spike.

Also looking through trail camera pictures and realized this is the deer I missed last Friday. He just broke off his entire left side except the spike.

There is a early muzzle loader season usually around the 3rd week in October. It pulls a ton of hunters in during that season. Anytime before is great bowhunting and less pressure. The first time you hear those little buggers bugle, it will have you hooked!

DANG IT!!!!! So close tonight to a BRUISER!!! The farmer was cutting when I got there. Stopped and talked to him for a minute. He said deer have been following behind his combine every night he’s been cutting. Knowing where he was cutting and the sound of the tractor as a magnet I set up in the middle of some CRP where these clumps of saplings were. It was tore up in there. Saplings ripped to shreds and intersecting trails everywhere. I used the wind and got hunkered down behind a clump of grass. 20 yd shot to my anticipated trail. Well with 5 min left of light and my legs numb from kneeling for 2 hrs I decide to slowly stand up to see if I can see better. Wish I would have seen the Giant that was 50 yds from me on the anticipated trail I was hunting headed in the direction that would have given me a 20 yd chip shot. He blew as soon as my head cleared the top of the grass. I saw him bound off carrying that crown of massive bone. Ugh. The only thing I can be happy about is my plan worked. I was just a moron to stand up with 5 min left. Oh well tomorrow is what dreams are made of. Tomorrow the plan WILL come together.

I have no idea whats going on with my place this year. I took the stay off the place, let it go natural and no more supplemental feeding. It is not working. So, I guess I'll get back to food plotting at the very least next year. Didn't see a thing other than a couple of cardinals. With all the limbs down in the woods I suspect they're filling up on branch tips and acorns. I don't know but I'll be back at it as soon as I can.

here was my view. There’s a small pocket of saplings to the left of that grass about 20 yds away. That’s where that buck was coming from.
