THAT was ROUGH!!!! Zero deer and man it got cold. Going from the 70's for the last few days, and this morning, to 44 and the wind blowing, makes for a long day.
Back at it in the morning!

Schoolwork is done!! I have a 10 am meeting with my client, and hope to be on the road by 11:30!! Not sure where I'm going to set up yet. Supposed to be getting the front coming through right around sunset. Not sure if the ridge I was at today would be productive, as my understanding is that bucks travel along ridges during the mornings to catch the rising thermals....

Good sit tonight but no deer to show for it. My buddy who hunts neighboring property almost got a shot at the big buck I hit a few weeks back. Grunted him in to 35 but no shot and he didn’t commit to coming any closer then turned and walked away. I kinda hope he gets him so I can actually see where I hit but kinda don’t want him to get him in hopes that he survives gun season and I can chase him next year.

Lastly, I think you may have convinced me to wear a bit more layers for the morning. Starting off cold but warming after, so a tad bit different.

I'm kind of glad I didn't kill him with my bow. It felt like my dad was there with me or something. I am back in an area where I can use a rifle so I grabbed the 30-30 my dad gave me as a kid that I haven't shot in years. I wasn't sitting more than an hour and he followed the same path he did when I saw him bow hunting 2 weeks ago. He was limping bad 2 weeks ago and he was limping bad tonight. I shot him dead in the shoulder and he went maybe 10 yards and went down. I could see him a bit in some willows and could see him struggling a bit so I just let him lay. He then busted up and ran off like a bat out of hell. By this point it was snowing real hard so I got down and started tracking. I found very little blood but I could see him out in front of me. I just started following his tracks in the snow. Followed him for a good 200 yards and he laid down on the edge of a hay field. I watched him for 15 minutes and thought he was going to expire. He got up again and laid down about 20 yards inside the woods. My scope was fogged up since I got out of the tree so I walked to the edge where he was. I used the iron sights to put an end to his struggles.

I haven't shot a buck with either my rifle or my bow in 8 years. I've had so many chances but just can't bring myself to shoot anything small. Wish he wouldn’t have broke off his G2, but I can’t complain.

First time I have killed a deer that I have had on camera which is pretty cool.

73 acres though it is J shaped divived buy a road and 6 other properties snd a road in the middle. 38+ acres square on one side and 35 acres on the other side. 24 1/2 of that being only 411 ft wide by near 1/2 mile long.
