Big racked buck, nose pointed to the right branch as he rubbed, body to the left, brows caught the left branch. If that is not it, I doubt a deer made that.

All settled. Got service. This feels like a killing kind of tree! Let's do this evening crew!

Man Yep I'm a fair weather hunter...lol perfect ssw wind for garden stand. Though I am fighting with tree spiders at the moment. I have rattling box with me and buck and doe calls. Will try calling one out of the santuary 100yrds to me sse. Crows are pretty vocal over there.
    Good luck guys,drop em!

Why wasnt i hunting this area a week ago. Deer all over in this swamp. They seem to have 0 pattern for where they are going though. Just walking around in random places. I just have to hope a buck comes upwind and not downwind.

How does that water drainage affect your wind? Does it pull your scent along or have no affect you know of? Pretty interesting set up.

Honestly not 100% sure. I’ve got a west south west and that buck caught my stream when we was just getting to the drainage. I assume it pulls it down in there a bit, but not much.

Would be interesting if you had something to drop to see how it moves. Might give you a clue how those bucks are using it to navigate and pick up as much scent as possible.

    Ah....the chubacabra!

Clipped a tarsal gland to my pants and made a scent trail on the way in.

Found a trail camera! I forgot about it from last year. I wonder how long the batteries lasted.

My guess is that if the water temp is equal to or colder than the air temperature, with little to no wind (under about 6mph) the thermals in the water are going to be pulling your scent down into the drainage.

I'm all set. Already had something chasing close by but too far and fast to see what. Just made out the body of a deer.

Does are moving early tonight. I saw 3 walking in. There are several does west of me in picked corn. 80 minutes remain.

Just hit a doe bleat. Buck comes mouth open on a B-line directly under my stand for an EASY shot.... If only he wasn’t a little 4 point :(

I’m sitting in a new spot here in the National Forest. This spot just looks and feel “deery”. Lots of good sign around I guess we will find out this afternoon and tomorrow morning.

Just seen your edit, I do not think it is just discolored, it's almost like it is polished smooth at the top and more shredded at the bottom.

While I would love for it to be a rub, I'm not convinced one way or the other on it. I'm going to hang a trail camera in the area tomorrow, and do what I didn't think of today, look at the back side of it, if it is like that completely around I will agree that it is something other than a rub, if it is only on this side I'm going to get excited to check trail camera after I get it set up. might put a few out in the general area, have the batteries and they're just sitting around in the house. Whatever it is it is still very fresh as the wood is still fresh, whereas a rub on a 2" sapling 10 feet away is already starting to dry and grey a bit.
