Well I made the call to the property owner in MD... said is it okay if I come down? And she said as long as you promise to kill one, they were in her yard eating flowers the other morning... I’m MD bound!!

Joe I think I speak for everyone here, you are far from the blind squirrel! If you were hunting any other area I am sure you would be very successful! Your drive motivates me when I have a couple sits that I don’t see deer. Keep at it man we’re all hoping for you!!

Thanks brother, I appreciate the kind words. Glad to hear that my passion is motivating people!

In my opinion, being honest with myself, I can only blame myself for my lack of sightings and success. There is deer in these woods, monster bucks too, and face little hunting pressure outside of shotgun season. The deer are mostly nocturnal and had I been doing my off-season scouting homework when I should, I would be in a better position to kill.

There is a lot I need to learn this offseason because I can't keep doing this to myself. I need to learn where and why the doe bed where they do. I need to learn what types of browse the deer eat when there are no white acorns. Same with the bucks. I need to learn where they bed, why they bed there, and what they are eating, to not have to travel far from their beds to eat. Then I can start formulating plans for hunting to put myself in the best position to kill every time I step into the woods. I want to hunt with a purpose/kill plan rather than hoping one walks by.

Inches...the diff between victory and defeat in bowhunting. Must have literally bounced off his back. Never in my life of having killed prob 50 deer with my bow and done every other stupid thing with shooting have I seen an arrow sail high and then this and no blood. Hair in fletching. Literally smacked his back. Embarassed to say the least. All I can do is push forward and keep practicing.

I called it at 9. I couldn't stay awake while concentrating on staying awake. Was more worried about the hour drive home but got some coffee and all was well.

Woke up 40 minutes late 2 1/2 hours restless sleep, half ass showered and threw on an old shirt and a pair of work jeans, grabbed bow and boots and hit the road.

Got on stand with just 10 minutes until legal time. Started off really slow the first hour. Finally at 7:05 I caught movement and out steps this guy.

    20201104_070211.jpg

He straight busted me going for my phone, but I managed to be still enough he hung out for a bit, would have been a 14yd chip shot.

About 7:30 another buck stepped out about 15 yds further up in that pick and I thought it was the same one but knew it wasn't. Crossed the clearing and another one steps out the same place, could have been identical triplets but was 3 separate bucks.

3rd one pegged me when I didn't even move, thinking he has a history with someone else this year.

They all came out from downwind and never spooked.

About 8:40 seen an unknown lone antlerless 80yds away.

Back at it tomorrow with proper sleep.

It happens, on the upside, you know what went wrong and a miss is better than a bad hit and the ensuing nightmare to follow. The next one won't be so lucky.

My first thought when you said 2.5 hours of sleep was "don't fall asleep and fall out of your stand".
Make sure your harness is hooked and stay safe brother.
Well crap VS, that sucks. They can really drop fast at times when they hear that bow go off.
Shake it off, a clean miss is better than a poor hit.

I got the ladder fixed...eewww good thing too. Trimmed the wild roe out of it and stand. Now going to sorta gerry rig platform to tree. . It's a big home made hang on type that is nailed to tree with heavy chain supporting foot base. Tree grew and lift foot base up at a slight angle. This I planned on with linkage...problem is... yes forgot my tool bag. Just have nail/screw box ,had saw , hammer, loppers, step ladder, racket straps. Will reinforce the nails and then do a racket strap back up.
In the mean time didn't have to scout far...this was on the way in.

All set up for the evening. Again, I find a brand new scrape on my trail in, about 60yrds from my tree. It’s so fresh it didn’t have a single leaf on it, and it’s been windy here.
    Good luck PMers!!
