Let’s hope it’s the calm before the storm

I’m sitting here feeling sorry for myself because I haven’t seen a thing all morning. I’m reaching for the last of my snacks when I catch a glimpse of a doe in the swamp. Finally. She keeps looking back and sure enough there is a buck trailing her. 2.5 yo not a shooter. She slides by at twenty yards so I start reaching for my camera thinking I’ll get a good picture of him. Next thing I know kill switch gets tripped and I send one down range. Oops.

Ha! That darn kill switch has a mind of it's own sometimes.
    Impatiently waiting to track.

Amazing things can happen when you respect people, are calm, and have an uplifting conversation with them. Most people are good. Show them you respect them and their land. This will open doors and land. My brother shot a little buck last week and it went 30 yards onto the neighbors property. He was tempted to just quick grab it, but instead went and talked to him. Bob was a bit peeved and felt infringed on at first, but my brother remained calm and LISTENED to his concerns, not dismissing them. By the time he left, Bob gave him permission to hunt his property!

Nothing but squirrel’s here. I bet that most of the activity was during the night because it was almost 70 degrees yesterday

Picked up a BOG Fieldpod and Primos Stakeout Ground Blind for the youth weekend. Got my son practicing his shooting position in the living room. This is about a kid friendly set up as it can be on public land. I am not going to put out anything bigger or more permanent. It would just be stolen. We will be practicing like this every night this week. I can bow hunt in orange with him. But, he is getting the first chance this weekend.

Buck, predatory instinct kicked in. I have passed bigger bucks over the last couple years but I guess that’s why I haven’t shot a buck since 2017.....
I’m sure I will have some buyers remorse but for now I’m savoring the moment.
Hit felt very good. 25 yards head behind a tree. Didn’t feel rushed at all.
I backed out and went to the truck to loose some layers. Heading back out now.

I’ve got a button buck here trying to “hump” what I can only assume is his mother... He’s done it twice. He’s a nice button buck but not the one I’m after.

3 bucks so far, all 2 1/2 8's 90-110'ish. Last two were on the trail together which I found odd.

    No other sightings, also odd.

Hard to keep my eyes open......
