image.jpg As I was driving south saw bunch of deer hauling butt through a field. I’m here at the edge of a swamp and found 2 ripe persimmons that are dropping. Beat down all around them. The wind is wrong to try to scout this place today so I’ll settle for this setup. 3 sticks high in a half dead tree with no cover in 20-30 mph wind gusts. Hey, I never said I was smart

I dug out an old pair of wool bibs.
They are in rough shape but a good buddy of mine commented years ago n said, "yanno, you've killed a ****pile of deer in them bibs"
Hes right. They will be back in a tree in a bit.
    Good luck p.m.ers.

Had turkeys in the backyard this morning. And by backyard i mean 3 feet from the house. Could have spit on them.

The dog didnt like it one bit. The birds didn't care one bit.

Wind is down to ONLY 17 mph. That is actually good news. Means the winds should be down to 10 or 11 near dark.

Niw the deer need to do their part

It’s a willow and it’s hard to tell from the pic but it won’t offer me a shot. I contemplated it. If I had brought a saw I could have made it work. I’ll be ok. Since I’m a saddle hunter and all I will be able to use my skills to put the tree between me and the deer. Haha. I did throw the ghilli on just cause I had it. I’m second thinking getting down and just setting up on the ground. Problem is I can shoot to both persimmon trees from here. On the ground I’ll have to pick one.

Replying to my own post like a dork. Not trying to make excuses but dang...

Got a new broadhead target and went to work. In all my years I've never had a bow go from shooting good to bad that fast. I shot at a range last week and at home. From elevation and distance. Was shooting good out to 30 with broadheads.
Today..launched about 20 arrows from 20 to 30 yds. 90% of them hitting low and left...4 inches low at 30.

Both my rest vertical and prongs were mildly loose. Absolute cluster F. Have no idea what happened from Fri morning when I shot to Sat afternoon. But it's fixed.

Just had a nice 8pt come through pushing a doe. He is about 4th on my list and I would have probably taken a shot at him if I wouldn't have seen my top 2 bucks on Friday in this same area. Still have 2 hours to get it done tonight.

VS, I'm guilty as hell about not checking things over during season and has cost me several times.

I did not even hunt at my cabin last year as I saw nothing on cams worth the drive.
Let 2 buddies hunt letting them (kinda, in a nonchalant way) to not shoot a great looking 6x6 3 year old.
Well guess what he got killed as he was walking past this tree at 9 yards on Nov 9.

Strange, last week I was freezing on stand, now I have mothes flying around.

    Good luck out there.

Crazy thing is Fri I did some practice draws with my bow and my arrows were wobbling around. I told myself I was prob drawing at a weird angle...did 5 or 6 practice draws from stand bc I knew something was wrong ....but just dismissed it. Cost me bad. Guess that is all part of this entire game. Specific crap makes a huge difference. Let's go November!

That's why it's good to take a day and check that stuff. Nice catch!

I'm shooting my bow now and checking the drop from 20 to 30 again. I'm getting between 5-6 inch drop. So that mean that buck had to drop alot when I shot. I was holding my 20 yard pin at mid body and worst case hit low in heart. But instead I hit 5 inches below his back. He had to have dropped on the shot.

I had one of those, haven't slept well or long in weeks, deep, well needed naps earlier and I still feel like a bag of smashed a holes. But I'm in a tree waiting! Maybe after I shake the cob webs ill feel better. Good luck all.

I think you made the right decision. I would have done the same, that way you keep your shot options open.
