You know it's dead as hell in the woods when you're checking LFTS with less than an hour of light left

Did not make it out this morning, mans best laid plans and all. But I did finally break away and got out here around 4pm. Had a little forky standing less than 10 yards from the blind grunting his ever lovin' head off. I was doing my tactical sloth thing and never noticed me. He finally headed off but not before working his little scape next to grandpa's.

The ice storm. Holey sheet. The woods here are destroyed. Cedars and oaks snapped like matchsticks. The big old native pecan behind my stand took a real shellacking. I havent ventured but about 100 yards into the property but you guys tell me if my line of thinking is off here. I think I am going to find a downed tree and just sit inside the branches. Kinda spot and stalk storm damage style. Whataya think?

Finally back in my car. Man what an awesome day, not just because I saw a deer, but with the weather the full moon, and everything I consider it a very successful hunt and I’m very happy. Good luck to anyone else who is still out tonight, and thanks for all the support as usual! Got a hit the store to get some beer on the way home

So the guys got a bunch of stands fixed and trimmed. Mowed trails moved my ladderstad in dead tree to next one over and cleared shooting lanes. All down hill. So my good white pine tree stand wasn't fixed or cleaned. But the ladderstand was always a good buck stand in a bunch of apples that hold late season. So all I need to do is fix new rungs over old and renail back board to tree on the home made hang on. Tomorrow is home though.

This damn guy and his permanent treestand ...I also walked through his cell trail cam on way out. He is gonna ruin this bedding area. I don't even think those cameras are legal on this base given there is an FBI academy, the DEA, and various other federal law and marine training. I'll have to look into the regulations

Other than that I had a great day. Cold and tired I've been up since 3:00 a.m. But this is what I signed up for. Back at it on Monday

Had two button bucks walk right underneath me at last light. Don't know where momma was. Had two smaller buck s at 50yds but not interested in those guys. Also saw three on my walk in. It was a pretty good evening. Can't get out again until Tues.

Closing time and I saw exactly zero deer. Think I'm going to go ahead and move my stand and hang it in the dark tonight. Back in the morning.

I’m out. Just the 6pt and a doe this evening. Oh well, the weather was perfect.
