Every deer in my neighborhood has blowed at me while I was walking in this morning. Doubt I’ll even see anything what y’all think? Have y’all still killed a deer on one of these mornings with every deer blowing at you?

I had a similar set up last night in an area the was loaded with scrapes.... very thick... few shooting lanes.

I climbed down at 4:30 and left rather than ruin the spot... kill percentage would have been very low, while getting busted percentage was high.

Hoping to go back in a week or two later and rely one that buck following a doe into a more climber friendly area.

I bump multiple deer on every walk in on the property I hunt in WI. It's impossible not to. I just hunt the edges of the property and hope a buck cruises through checking on those doe bedding areas I just bumped out. Usually they don't. Sometimes they do.

He went to camp and on the way out spotted a " do not shoot " buck...lol If he didn't want me at camp before he sure doesn't now...lol

I had to move. My scent was just pooling in that area. Moved 100 yds 20201028_082311.jpg uphill to where wind was stable and I jumped a buck making a scrape. Beautiful fall day.

Like all worthwhile things, the learning curve is steeper, but once you get the hang of it, way easier than a hang-on setup. Climbers are still the easiest to use, but still have more bulk to carry through the woods. There are trade offs to each method. Having tried all three, for me, the saddle is the best for how I like to hunt; I can get into any tree like a hang on without being limited to limbless trees like a climber would be, and I do not have to carry the bulk or weight of a full-sized stand.

I take it he killed from ground again in last night's episode? I haven't watched it yet.

Yep he caught it headed for the stand I needed to go repair ladder and never got a chance.,which is a line that heads right to his stand.. Love the guys but geez all their stands need re doing to be safe and they go in just before gun to do it. Then wonder why they don't see many big buck. I neec to get some better sticks for my saddle set up and save up for a foot platform...they are so dang expensive and I dont see the price coming down.

    yep. At like 3 yards.
Not going to spoil it all for you but even more impressive than his skill is his character (at least as a hunter.)

good luck all you killers out there today. T minus 36 hours for me.

I'm just doing an afternoon/evening sit today. I will have perfect conditions! I forgot to mention, yesterday when I was watching that 8pt well out of range, I saw him get up on his hind legs to rub his orbital glands on some branches. It's surprising how high they can actually reach. I had only ever seen that on videos, so watching it live was very cool!
Also, the hunter I mentioned seeing walking aimlessly through the woods at 3:15PM walked past me again at the parking area in the dark and asked if the other parking area was down the road? Ahhh, public land hunting. lol

if you can use sticks and a lock on you can saddle hunt. The rest of the gear isn't hard.

but the sticks...oh, the sticks...that's why I am only a part time saddler. Give me a choice and if I know there are proper trees I am going climber every time.
