I’ll admit it. When I first saw them being used in hunting shows I thought they were just another gimmick. I know better now.
One week from today is the opener! Extended forecast is calling for 69 degrees as a high temp. I'll be in the tree! Not sure how this fall with play out, so every hunt counts, I am sick of not having deer meat. Might be time to orphan a fawn!
True!! But, I personally don't think I could do it. I'm a softie! LOL! I am willing to make a fawn have abandonment issues by killing its mother though!!!
I'm with Joe. I. Too much of a softie to smoke a fawn, but there may be some orphans running around this year. All standards on does getting hall passes are off and stacking the freezer has top priority. If 2021 is worse than 2020, I'll probably find out how tender those spotted , adorable suckers really are. I shot fawn last year and felt so bad. I don't ever shoot them anymore, probably been over 15 years since last one. But this one came out and was limping so bad and had a huge hole thru it's front leg. I could see fluid still running down its leg. Felt so bad for it, so decided to take it. After cutting out the infection and the bad meat from my shot, didn't even get 15 pounds of meat. Never again Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I'm glad between my son and I we had 2 good size deer in the freezer from last year. It has really helped during all of this. Planning on filling the freezer again this year, maybe even LC style. As for fawns, I will shoot one if I need meat in the freezer. Usually wait until at least middle of November though. Gives them a little more time to grow. I haven't shot one in a couple of years though and don't plan on it. We rely on the deer meat so sometimes it's brown and down.
I won’t shoot a doe with a spotted fawn in tow. In fact I passed on two does yesterday because there was a spotted fawn with them and I didn’t know which doe was the mother.
I'm a heartless SOB then Never seen a spotted fawn during season, but if I did I think the spots would just give me more of a target location. While true they don't provide much meat, there's not a tough or gamey morsel on them
Early on in my hunting career they called me BBM. Short for button buck master, cause I killed so many of them thinking they were an average size doe and not a fawn. Now --- I like to eat meat... good meat that is tenders and tasty an so they died due to my appetite. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
I've shot my share of doe fawns, but never one with spots. I just can't do it. Older fawns are excellent eating, but I prefer not shooting them simply because it takes almost as much work to process a fawn as it does a yearling doe, and when all is said and done I don't end up with much in the freezer to show for the work invested.
I believe it was even rumored to be issued by Dr. Fauci the other day in a news conference, "This potential vaccine will in essence target and eradicate the Coronavirus in an "LC style" fashion." This of course was met with very shocked and wide eyed reactions by reporters - indicating that level of confidence to a vaccine is incredible.
When I order burgers, I've started to ask for them LC style, but it's worth a double check that they are going to LC style the bacon too...
