Pastor, I also wonder if that doe already had a wound from before. That’s an awfully short amount of time for flies to be on it and cause that much damage. The crows I can see, but not the flies.
I think you shot a doe that had been hit by a car or perhaps shot by a small caliber gun.

I appreciate your words of encouragement guys. The whole situation definitely provided more questions than answers. I did hate to see the animal go to waste but believe me, it was just nasty and I would not have felt safe with it. Looking at the wound and everything else, in addition to the buzzards, it was almost as if there was some sort of infection already present.

I'll tell you what Joe, I don't know very many people that would have the perseverance you have in this situation. You obviously are very passionate about the sport or you wouldn't approach it with the enthusiasm you display every year. Whether you realize it or not, you are an inspiration to many on this forum and I am glad you are a part of it.

    Blessings.......Pastorjim

Didn't you have this attitude last year and you killed a buck shortly after voicing it here?

It is a sickness, we are all infected to some degree. Honestly, I am little jealous you have the flexibility to go out as much as you do. With young kids, my hunting is pretty much regulated to Saturdays and the random holiday during the week. If there is an upside to the pandemic this year, its that I have enough unused vacation time I am finally taking my first official deer rutcation, off both weekends and all week Nov 7- 15.

OK, you get the 'hand me down' advice I got from my wife...

"maybe you need to find a new spot"

I work 11 and 12 hour days. That gives me more days off than most people. My youngest is now 12 and a 1/2 years old in my oldest can drive. That gives me a lot more flexibility now that my kids can do most everything on the Their own.

It didn’t go to waste. It wasn’t consumable to a human. Nature will take care of it. Most importantly it was killed with good intention.
