Now that I think about it, neither have I. I've had chances here in Kentucky in the past, but I've always blown it. I'm going to give this spot two more sits and then I'm going to shift to one of the other spots and give this one a rest. One of the other spots is my "go-to" spot that I call the "T woods". It has a pond in one of the corners and it's always a good spot. The wind was wrong for it today, but tomorrow afternoon it should be good. I do want to hit the new patch of woods while I'm here. I have no idea what travels those woods, but I do know it's absolutely crawling with deer.
I have one of those, but it's one that I was issued with my Desert Camouflage Uniform for a deployment to Saudi Arabia way back in 1999. Maybe I should give it a try. Then again, there was a USO show there that deployment and it's autographed by David Ball and Mary Chapin Carpenter, so maybe I shouldn't wear it hunting.
Love that this is finally going. Good luck LC! Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I wish I still had mine that I was issued when I was in Iraq in 03-04. Desert camo, had my name and Sgt rank embroidered, and my last name embroidered on the back in Arabic. I had forgotten it in my dodge avenger that got repo'd back in 2016 after my stroke when we experienced financial hell.
I may not have a boonie hat, but I’ve been trying out my new facecover while driving around. I’ll still probably see more deer than you Joe Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Anyone else seeing scrapes getting put out all over. Seems a bit early. These were all pretty fresh. Sent from my SM-G950U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I’m back on stand in the same spot. The wind is not what was forecast and is iffy at best. I have my Ozonics running just in case.
I’d wager there are bucks bedding close to there. They are beginning to become territorial. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I’d say that’s doubtful at this point. I’m hunting close to the adjoining property, which normally isn’t a problem. I can recover deer if one runs there. Problem is a kid fired up a tractor and started discing ground about 100 yards away. I thought no problem, he’s putting in a late plot, although the pattern he was discing didn’t make sense. Now there are three kids riding dirt bikes on the trail he disced up. Oh well. I could move but by the time I got packed up, loaded, moved and set up again I’d need a shower. It’s only 4:15 and the ground they disced is upwind, so I’m gonna enjoy the show and hope they don’t ride until dark. If they just ride for an hour or two then the freshly tilled ground upwind might work to my advantage. I guess we’ll see.
some scrapes are social- both bucks and does will hit them all year. Found that out a couple years back when I found what I thought was a world record sized scrape in mid-October. Put a cam on it and it was mostly does/fawns and young bucks.
My optimism dissipated when they brought in a skid steer with a bucket to build jumps. I’m now in a tree on the new patch of woods 15 miles away. No idea what to expect here but does are off the menu for now.
that's almost funny. The property I hunt in WI, the neighbor likes to cut wood all day opening weekend- and he's a hunter! He knows we're in camp because we share an easement and he drives right past us. Sumbitch is retired and only lives a half hour from the property too, whereas we work M-F and have to drive over 3 hours to get there. We asked him once to call us on Friday if he was planning to cut on Saturday, and he literally said "sometimes I just wake up and feel like cutting wood." I get it's his land, but FFS never fails.
