Headed to AP Hill to hunt a “veteran” area, never hunted them before. You have to 2 years experience on base to hunt the areas that surround the SDZ.

All set up! I found a shelf with a funnel leading down to it, and one coming up. A few fresh rubs and a very fresh scrape under a hemlock. I’d like to think I’m close to bedding areas, but because I don’t do my offseason homework, I don’t know. Good luck everyone!!

Posted up in some wide open pines that drop into what appears to be a think holler. Kicker is a have a concentration of red / white oaks around me. I am also right next to the SDZ. Got an LZ behind me about 200 yards. I’m thinking this is gonna be a really good staging area prior to them going out into the LZ or I will see nothing

Saddle hunting is not a trend for me. At least, not when it comes to my public land bowhunting. It is a steeper learning curve, but, once you get the hand of it, way easier than a tree stand. I will only be using tree stands in the event that some gives me permission on private land with preset ladder stands. Even then, I may still use my saddle and hang out-of-sight on the back side of the tree.

Climbed a 6” tree that would be sketchy if I didn’t have a hemlock tree to lean against! My favorite type of setup!

    I'm back up 20 feet,
62 degrees now. Not good but not bad either.

We shall see, property owner has advised that he seen several deer early evening where I go in and out of the woods. (Cut corn field)

I scouted this place 10 yrs ago and never hunted it. Fits good bc it's only a 15min walk in and I have to work tonight. Slowly ease my way in over an hr. Red line thinking based on the wind maybe something would be bedded in this little swampy overgrown mess. Thought maybe bedded in the blue area. I slow down to start to set up and up jumps a bedded mature buck. He never saw me or smelled me. Trotted off and slowed down after 20 yds. I eased back with the wind blowing and set up 40 yds back with a couple white oaks dropping. Trails on both sides of creek coming to the oaks.

I have the same exact setup with backpack straps on the stand. I love it so much.
