Hey at least I had my clothes on. Its not like I go in the woods in nothing but a saddle and pole dance for the deer. Although, with the way my luck has been the last couple seasons, it may be worth a shot. I will let Joe try it first. Pretty sure its still been longer for him than me with a bow kill and easy recovery.

a little hard to be certain from the angle (tilted head forward) but I would say 170 all day. Eff those G2s- the G3s more than make up for them and then look at the distance between the G2s-G3s. That thing might be a legit Booner even with deductions

I'm changing my thoughts on it, probably mid 160's.

His right side is pretty far off from the left

Yeah, I decided on a totally different tactic. I waited until the doe was in the right spot and I shot the base of a dead tree. It fell and took her out. Of course, I had to use a Rage to pull that off.

Actually, I'm a little confused on how she ended up that way. I didn't check, but maybe she crashed into a dead snag and it fell on her.

Actually folks, I'm disappointed in myself with that doe kill.

She came in by herself. I posted at 6:58 (I think) that I'd shot her so allow 2 or 3 minutes for watching, listening, getting my phone out and posting and I most likely shot at 6:55. Last light was 7:09 here tonight. It was pretty dim, but I could see her with my eyes.

What I couldn't tell and to be honest, didn't look for was that she was very young. She was so small that if I didn't mind getting bloody I could have used my drag strap, tied her hooves together, slung her over my shoulder and walked up the hill to the house like I was carrying a piece of luggage.

I know not to shoot what appear to be single does later in the season because there's a good chance they're fawns that are milling around while momma is pinned down by a buck or they've been orphaned. It never even occurred to me this early in the season.

Also, the shot, while obviously lethal and she only made it about 100 yards, was less than stellar to say the least. I was 27 feet up and she was only 12 yards away. It was definitely forward like I thought. She was quartering away and the entry wound was through the cartilage at the top of the left scapula. The exit wound was almost in the center of the front of her chest, just a bit closer to the right front leg than the left.

I'm a little bummed to be honest. I said I wasn't going to shoot a fawn this year and I did it. That's the last time I take a shot at a lone doe unless she has a bottle nose that's a foot long.

Still, that's going to be some good eating, so there's that for an up-side.

Now that I know what I shot she was most likely too young to be on the internet without parental controls in place.
