Opening day 2020! No it’s not always that open... property owners had the invasive honey suckle killed off this yr.

Not a big deal. We’ve got 3 nice ones hitting a community scrape not far from here.

LFTS...FINALLY. In a stand I put up this summer. I've never hunted the north end of the property with a bow. NW wind. I hope to stay dry. I cannot figure out why I didn't cut 2 branches here...really meet up my shot to the west. I'll shoot anything close enough except young bucks. Enjoy. Thank you LORD for physically and financially being able to hunt and good people that allow me to hunt. Amen. 20201001_171150.jpg

Pretty shocked that nothing is moving here. Maybe they will get up with the moon at last light.

It’s pouring rain... maybe this ground blind thing isn’t so bad.
I had a doe blow at me at 4. Never got a glimpse of her. Not sure why she was blowing as she was upwind.

They killed the honey suckle? That is a great early season food source around here.

Ugh! I just missed a doe at 10 yards! Had a problem with my rest and it wouldn't flip up. Had to let down to get it to work. Then I rushed a shot and missed. She just walked around for a couple minutes and I almost got a 2nd shot.

I was less than thrilled about it. Around these parts (IN) I don’t know that it has a tone of nutritional value and doesn’t allow for much else to grow... The deer do lick on it and eat it especially once the frost hits. Plus it Makes for incredible cover and bedding areas for the deer.

On the bring side - this is an area that was basically un huntable in the past due to access and too much vegetation.

But again - not thrilled. But you adapt. Everyone runs into something in a given year I suppose.

I'm sitting here staring at my arrow and noticed the nock is gone. My be it broke when I shot? Might be why I missed.

Awesome time you had Holt! You're lucky to have seen all that going on, especially so close. I wish the deer in my woods acted like that.

Could be. It was a lighted nock and can't see it from the stand. To think back I don't remember it coming on when I shot. I'm curious to see the arrow when I get down.

Finally set up. I moved to the dirt bike stand.

When I got here someone was running a skid steer. I figured “what the heck” and walked over to talk to them.

It was a teenager, probably 17, running the thing. I politely asked how long he thought he would be because I was planning to hunt.

He was a decent young man and he said he was just doing it because he had nothing else to do and would be glad to stop so I could hunt.

    Awfully nice of him.

Is it a nockturnal that was bought in the last year or so?? They changed something and now they basically just break after they hit anything, mine broke on my doe this year, first time I’ve ever had that happen

My first sit is going to have to wait at least another day. No way am I ready to hit the woods much less process or store a deer.

Wind has went from SW to NW in 24 hours, NW is quite possibly the worst wind of all. Saturday is now looking like the best day with calm winds.

I have to go through both meat freezers and make sure I will have room.

No sense in hunting stupid first sit of the season
