Well this is disappointing after yesterday afternoon. Not one deer sighted in this other patch of woods.

I'll give it one more sit tomorrow morning on the other end.

    I need some advice.

I need to get back to the T woods and move that stand from where it is to the SE corner of the top section by the pond.

It's about a 150 yard move and it's about a half mile walk through the open field to get there.

I'm thinking that instead of walking all the way in this afternoon in 90 degree temps, getting the stand and then walking over through corn stubble and then making noise setting up that when I get down in a while I should just drive my truck through the field to the stand, grab it, drive to the tree, hang it and drive out.

I don't believe a vehicle would scare the deer nearly as bad as a human walking all over the place plus it would be this morning instead of an hour before they come out.

    What do you think?

The truck would be quicker and less intrusive id think.
Edit: or maybe option C, go buy a cheap lock on and go in a little early to hang it

I would definitely drive to get it. Much less scent left and deer are used to seeing vehicles in fields. Good luck!

    Thanks. That's what I'll do.

In about to get down and move this stand to the east side of these woods and then I'll drive over to the T woods and get it done.

Yes truck. Deer don't really care about mechanical conveyances and come back as soon as they are gone.

I got that task done. It was a bit more difficult than I thought.

I haven't been in that tree for a few years and it has quite a few Virginia Creeper vines on it, some as big as my thumb.

I got as much as I could off from the ground as quietly as I could, out my climber in he tree and drove out through he corn stubble. I'll still have some small vines up too to remove on my way up.

Now I just have to decide if I want to walk the half mile in from the east with the rows or walk he quarter mile in from the north across the rows.

I don't mind the distance. It's the open, sunny field at 90 degrees I hate. At least the wind will be blowing at around 15 mph. That'll help.

Tomorrow is the day! I have a big decision, hunt the spot I've gotten buck pics or hunt the creek area. If I hunt the am, I have to leave at 9am which is fine, it's going to be heating up quickly.
Either AM buck spot, or evening bean field. PM hunt will be in the 80s, sounds terrible.

When in doubt, play the wind to your best advantage, or, see if a buddy can drive you back in your truck.

    Good idea.

I could have my brother drive me back. He's not hunting yet. It might interrupt his afternoon nap but he'll get over it.

If I walk in the wind is in my favor either way but I would walk the half mile route. The other way would let any deer bedded on the edge on two sides see me coming.

    Good call, very fair trade!

I'll be heading out tomorrow morning to the same spot I was in yesterday. It poured last night, so any scent of mine is washed away. I'll be facing the right direction this time! lol
