Love to hunt turkeys in the spring, still trying with bow, but there is nothing better than a big old gobbler coming in spitting and drumming, don't have to be a great caller, I have had hens come in and thought for sure it was some yahoo's first time calling. The Hunting Public and Pinhoti Project (Dave Owens) are great places to learn some tricks from. You are already ahead of the game if you have turkeys on your land. Feel free to pm any questions or start a threat over in Turkey section. A good tight shooting choke is very necessary, Hunted for 7yrs before killing my first, 5 of that on land that never had birds..

Thank you for all the kind words guys! I’m really excited for them and will be amazing when the time comes to be able to take them out in the woods with me!

It’s southern But in the middle of the state. About an hour south of Montgomery. It’s awesome and so much fun I love it down there. May I ask why you picked Alabama to retire? Just curious I love it down there I thought about moving down there also haha

Taxes, none on retirement pensions, super low property tax, exemptions after age 65 on prop tax; climate-its 50's in the winter and I dont mind the heat as I get older, lots of deer and liberal bag limits, conservative politics, low home prices, land available, very few firearm restrictions. I'm looking at the three counties across the top of the state.

I'm also looking at Tennessee and Kentucky for many of the same reasons, though it gets colder as you move north. Even KY is so much better then VT for weather though.

Hey you got a deer off your own land and that usually feels good! Congrats again on finishing the season with a deer!

I decided that today will be my last sit of the season! Season goes out tomorrow, but I can only hunt one of the days because of work and family. So today is the day! It's the coldest day of the week and I got a rare east wind. Probably won't head in til 1, got a little work this morning. Will update once I get out.

I found that there was bucks in the bed that I found last year. I'm just hoping there is a bigger one in there this time. Same rules as last Sunday's hunt, anything gets shot but fawns. The wind is the best possible for this bed. It's going to make a very long hike in, I got to make a huge loop around and come in from the side. Should be no problem to within 40 yards. This will be fun!

Yeah I agree. The land and prices for homes in Alabama compared to NH is ridiculous how expensive NH is. And the warm weather and lots of deer tags makes it perfect

Friend at work doesn't turkey hunt but has a bunch of calls and decoys. Has to move some stuff in his garage to get to the decoys md other stuff, but gave me 3 calls this morning.

The Quaker Boy was built 12/5/1990

All its gonna cost me is a 12 pack of PBR. I'll probably up it to a case though.

    Well worth it IMO

I'm up! Didn't bump any deer. Did hear one moving around in cattails when I was setting up. Plus the wind is blowing out of the wrong direction, but I still made it work. Let's see what happens on my last sit of the year!

So far quiet. Lots of ducks out in the marsh, plus seen quite a few bald Eagles flying around. Probably another 45 minutes before any deer movement.
