Gonna be a cold windy sit for me and I dont think the winds are right for my original plan. Guess I'll have to adjust plans on the fly

Saw 4 this evening, but they were all in the thicket, no shots.

Headed back to VT. Be back In 2 weeks. Supposed to be highs in the 30's and a new moon.

Nothing for me tonight. Scheming on a half day at work before it all ends 30 minutes after sunset Wednesday. May not be perfect wind but I'm going to make it work I think. I cant just give up!

Buddy of mine gave me intel of a nice buck he and his wife saw while crappie fishing that was bedded on this point. With a SE wind I made a long walk. Figured worth a shot. My setup was almost bulletproof.... almost lol. The only thing I can think of is the buck slipped behind me to the edge of the water to either get a drink or have a nice view. He winded me at 15 yds. Couldn’t draw my bow because of a stupid dead branch I figured wouldn’t be a problem so I didn’t bother getting rid of it. He was a nice 3yr old I’m guessing 120”. Skinny body and Rutted down hard. Looked like he could use a couple cheeseburgers and some pizza. So close again. Not a bad hunt though for never hunting that area before. Well it’s been great hunting with you guys this season. Look fwd to some shed and turkey hunting with you all this winter and spring. Edit: in hind sight I should have setup on the SW side of that little cove. This would have not given that deer any chance to get behind me.

Damn right. It was a fun hunt and learned a lesson. Never ignore even the smallest weakness in your setup. I should have gotten rid of that dead branch at minimum. Best case I should have set up on the other side of that cove. Problem was I already laid ground scent up to where I set up so backtracking was sketchy too. Never quit learning in this game.

Great effort, hindsight is 20/20! It would have been awesome to close the deal. You certainly had some cool encounters this season. No doubt you worked for them too!

Speaking of work, I’ve had my fill. Going to sneak out this afternoon. Going to be on the ground most likely. I will be close to bedding and don’t think I want to risk hanging a set until I know if I have a shooter in the group. It’s been a week since I’ve been out. Hopefully things have settled back down since the end of muzzleloader season.

Thanks. And yes it’s been a season of close Calls. Not my year though. Good luck this afternoon and rest of your season. Hope you get redemption after that heartbreaker a couple weeks ago

Looks like one buck out in the pasture way off. Bucks have really been laying down some sign last couple of days. I saw 2 more fresh scrapes on my way in today. This seems more like november.

Total intentional, trying to be as stealthy as possible...cough cough:biggrin:

I had three come out about 80 yards away. Milled about for a few minutes before one must have picked me off. Just ran off field and blew inside the tree line for a min. No antlers.
