Good luck guys! Travelling for Christmas has kept me out of the woods for the last four weeks. Family commitments this coming weekend. I hope to get back out the weekend of January 18-20. I have a three day weekend with the holiday Monday on the 20th.

I’m all talk, I passed on a buck that size on Friday. Starting to think it was a mistake though.

Well, I set up almost perfect. I should have faced the other direction.

The big boy showed up right at 7:00 but he ghosted in from behind me and was 10 yards away before I knew he was there.

He picked me off and bounced out to 40 yards. I managed to dial my sight to 40 and get drawn but I didn't think I could make the shot with the thick cover.

Ended up watching him bounce away blowing like a doe.

About 7:30 does came in downwind and I got to watch the lead doe do what a friend calls the "Ozonics Shuffle".

She finally decided she didn't like it and went the other way but she never ran or blew. I guess that's good.

I'm not sure if I should come back here or not.

If it was only the one buck, sit that spot again, didn't you see two or three using that trail?

Same here I have too many doe but I keep passing them waiting for a buck. I’m really glad I took one on opening day. If it becomes mathematically impossible for my team to win I will switch over into management mode and use my tags on doe.

Maybe move, but not to far. That buck needs an arrow for blowing!

I'm back up. I decided to hunt the same tree. That was only one of three bucks I saw yesterday morning.

I don't think that buck will be back through anytime soon. These deer are very educated and very smart.

Yep. Back up in the same tree.

This morning a buck was chasing does grunting like it was November. I never saw him but I did see the does.

I hope so. The only movement I've seen here has been in the morning.

If a big doe gives me a shot this evening I'll take it. Killing any deer here with a bow is an accomplishment. These deer aren't stupid like the ones in Kentucky.

Oh yeah, one lesson I learned about using an Ozonics:

They do work, but with it right over my head the sound, while quiet, is loud enough that I couldn't hear that buck coming this morning.

A friend of mine was hunting 80 yards away and he heard it before he saw it heading straight to me. (We hunted together to try to intercept the bucks)

If I'd heard it coming and not been caught flat footed with him 10 yards away the outcome might have been different.

You know what they say, though: "If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas."

Guessing that did not mean you missed the lead doe, congrats and good luck on recovery.
