Oh man, I hate that for you. It's a good sign they're moving though. Keep your head up!

The doe were staging back in the woods around 60 70 yards away. They were acting weird going back and forth across the ditch. I realized why when I get a flash of antlers. Nice wide and tall shooter. A little busted up on his left but but still decent. He isn't alone. There is three other smaller bucks in the brush. After a while the doe start to trickle back into the woods. One of the bucks starts heading towards a bridge (not really a bridge but the water in the ditch flows through a pipe in this area). He is at 43 yards. I tell myself if that shooter follows him I'm taking the shot. Sure enough he follows him. All the grass in that area is matted down. I have a clear shot. I stop him with a grunt and bring my sight up his leg and settle on his spine. He drops a little and I watch my nock fly harmlessly over his back. They all book it outta there..

I obviously didn't need to aim that high or I flinched. Who knows Its been a long season. I'm disappointed to say the least, but I'm glad I didn't gut shot him etc.

I'm probably going to move that stand closer to the staging area when I get a chance. Hopefully I didn't scare him off for the season.

Ended up taking a doe yesterday evening with the slug gun. At least I didn’t get skunked this year. Saw a lot of buck sign in the field/bedding area when I was dragging the doe out. Still have until Jan 1 but doubt I’ll be making it out again. It’s been nice following along on this thread and I look forward to it every year. Good luck to those still getting out.

Here she is boys. Man, it feels great to finally have a deer down! It’s been a long season, thankful she gave me the opportunity! Now the work begins.
