Had an interesting evening.. my dad calls and says there is a nice buck on a doe over by his house. He watches them for some time and says they are headed down towards where they cross the road all the time just down the road from his place.. says I should go sit over by there and I could get lucky. So I grab my bow and haul ass over there and park just up the road from the corner. I had on reg cloths and just tossed on my hunting coat grabbed my release, climber, bow and range finder and headed down to find I spot just inside the woods on the edge of the field where they should cross. I knew I wouldnt have a tree to climb but thought I would sit on my climber so I wasnt sitting in dry leaves. I get all set up and like clock work here they come on the other side of the road.. I thought this just may work!! Well, I got to watch them for over an hour but she hung up and never crossed the road to where i was. It was one heck of a good try all things considered.. and a very neat sit, but it didnt pan out.

Best move I've made in a while.
No shooters but plenty of shot opportunities.
Had to wait to get down due to the amount of deer around me. Great evening!

    Back to work tomorrow! :throw:

So a little good times update. Me and squirt go between some bedding and get down wind pretty stealthy like of some spots that I've seen bucks bed in the past and she looks at me and says, what was that? I didnt hear anything, big surprise with my crap hearing, and I say what did it sound like. Pretty sure she said like a sick cow or a burp...pull out my grunt call and give it a quick grunt. Her eyes told me the answer but she says yeah that was it! So we tuck in behind some cedars and I nock an arrow. Grunted and made some racket on the nearest tree trying to sound like a pissed off buck. And we sit. Less than 10 minutes passed and we both heard the next grunt...downwind, game over. Lol. We had a blast and even saw a snake that seemed quite dead but wasnt. Just a rat snake. Anyway I needed that and my kid is very awesome! All of y'all are awesome too. 20191117_144329.jpeg

Okay, so I'm gun hunting in Mark Twain National Forest right now.

The wind was finally right for me to go down and hunt "my" valley. I knew I was going to have a shot opportunity.

As soon as I finished getting set up I heard the sound of a group of does crashing down the side of the ridge right at me. I love that sound by the way.

They ran right to me and stopped 15 yards away. I watched them and they eventually fed away.

About 30 minutes before dark I heard the unmistakeable sound of a buck coming through the leaves. You know the sound.

I moved my 45/70 to my shoulder and looked. He was still over a hundred yards away and closing fast.

I got the scope on him and saw he was a nice 8 point. I'd guess between 100" to 120". Any year before this year I'd have shot him and been thrilled.

He stopped at 50 yards and looked straight at me and I was looking at him through my scope. It was about a two minute stare down. He finally continued on and got to 40 yards. When he got past being broadside I set the gun down, grabbed my phone and shot some video.

Also, after killing that big bodied brute a few weeks ago, killing him would have been an anticlimactic end to my Missouri buck hunting, especially since I have a great 11 point on camera back home.

It's strange. I'm just as excited at having let him walk as I would have been if I'd killed him. Maybe more so.

By the way, I'm not posting on here much lately BECAUSE I'm gun hunting.

I'll have a bow back in my hand before too long.
