Dang. Is there a penalty or just flogging about the head and neck area?

Dang Tony....Tough break. They are resilient animals, and it sounds like he might pull through. Good to hear about getting along so well with the neighbor!

Well folks I am gonna give it another 30 minutes then going to go hang out with my youngest daughter. Might bring her down here with me later and try to show her how to stalk. Lol. I haven't seen a single deer.

And I just heard a doe blow in the distance. Not down wind either. Hmmm

I moved to another area of the property where I have zero signal yesterday. Had 2 encounters that were SO close I just couldn’t get it done. One was a huge 10 with a busted up side His beams were Massive! I couldn’t even move he was so close. He worked his way away from me, butt right to me. By the time he turned broadside he was 52 yds. I just couldn’t shoot that distance. The second encounter I was hanging another set at about 1pm yesterday I was on my last stick and I hear leaves behind me. I turned my head slowly and saw a big buck with leaves and junk all over in his rack. He must’ve just thrashed a tree real good. I’m hanging off the side of the tree by my linesman belt. He’s looking away from me so I slowly start pulling my bow up. Managed to get bow, release on, and arrow knocked. THEN he decides to take off. I drew and tried to stop him while hanging off the side of the tree. When he stopped to look back I just wasn’t comfortable with the distance. In hind sight I guess I should have tried to stop him then range him then draw and shoot? Hard situation. Resting this morning my back is absolutely toast guys. I might make it back out for last hoorah befor gun season next weekend. Three days of work after 9 days off is gonna suck!

One more interested thing... notice the broadhead and the nock were missing? My guess is he ducked and turned and it went through his brisket with the head hanging out ... the trees and brush unscrewed the head? I hope that’s the case .. otherwise it’s still in him

given the spray + distance I would also think single lung, blowing out his nose as he walks. He may make it.
Sounds like you made a good hunting friend though; and that may make it worth the experience.

Lots of lost deer on the thread this year. Lots. Way too many. (And I'm one of them.)
Every situation is different and this won't prevent every lost deer but next chance we get I hope those of us who lost one (or more) remember to take that extra 2 breaths before we release.

Want to address the migraines for a moment. First water is SO important for everything ,and especially in cold weather, because we don't tend to consider it. Cold air dehydrates you.
I suffered BAD migraines for years. NO light, vomit, fetal position , no sound. No one ever thought to check hormones. Just pop a pill and hope. We all have hormones and different things change them. Mine was something you guys can't have, though that doesn't mean hormones shouldn't be considered or asked about. I had my first pregnancy. My hormones changed at that point. I haven't had a migraine since 1983. At 39 something changed again...who knows, leg cramps...I have to drink a ton of water and take magnesium pills. These can be 20 min " please God kill me " cramps. Thats what I'm usually crying out by the end. Always worse in hunting season. Long sits, over exertion, dyhydration.
Just things to think about..perhaps ask your Dr.

I bet the broadhead is still in him and it unscrewed. Also on multiple occasions I have had the knock completely blow out when I hit something really hard. Be it a bone or hit a rock in the ground after it blows thru deer. It is usually lighted nocks that do that to me.

I still wasn’t feeling great yesterday, so I slept 12 hours last night.
I’m taking my climber through this big overgrown field to the farthest corner of the property for the rest of the day.
I’ve seen some bruisers back there in the past, but haven’t been there yet this year.

    Good luck gang!
