Whew! It's hot out there now.

I got the doe skinned, quartered and in the fridge. I worked at a fever pitch and even took the ribs this time. The buzzards are gonna find this carcass and think "He didn't leave us ****".

I thought I was being intelligent by skirting the edge of the plot on my way in this morning. It wasn't a good idea. This doe came out right on top of my trail and tracked me very slowly (about 15 minutes) straight to my tree.

After she sniffed around the base of my tree for a few minutes she finally continued on and gave me a 16 yard broadside shot behind my tree. I had to contort a bit to shoot under a branch that was in the way.

The shot was a bit high. It cut the spine and took out the offside lung. She dropped and died quickly but the arrow didn't pass all the way through and when she fell it broke my arrow. That's the exit wound in the pic and if you look close you can see 3/4 of the arrow in the quiver. The other quarter of the arrow was still in her.

I'm pretty jazzed to break the ice but I'm a little disappointed in how small she was. There wasn't another deer around to judge her size. Still, this will be some good eats. IMG_3504.jpg

Congratulations Littlechief! I'm glad to hear she dropped within sight, especially with the heat you guys have right now. It must feel great to have a deer shot, de-boned and in the fridge before noon, she sure looks tasty!

way to go little chief! I had the same thing happen to me later, hate when a smaller doe comes in by itself, especially early on in the year, so hard to judge the size! either way youll have some good meat!

So who is hitting the woods this afternoon? I'm meeting up with someone to do a trade/sale of my LW for a Summit Viper SD and cash. With my balance being off post stroke, especially in the dark, I should be in something that has railings. I'll be hitting the woods tomorrow afternoon for my first hunt of the year!!

I'm out. Hung this set today. A small finger of woods between a Brook and the corn. Same place I was ground hunting yesterday but now I'm in the air.im not very far up so I can shoot under the low lying branches.

High pressure, sunshine and 78. Wind is blowing my odor out into the corn. Anything coming in to drink first and eat later shouldnt smell me.
