No does we’re leading him the other way. I thought I might have a chance because he followed a doe in the trees but came out a couple more times and a different doe group came out near me. I have been playing cat and mouse with this buck all season.

Just got back! Long story short, 17 does this morning, no shot opportunities, no bucks following any of them??? Had to get out of stand about 20 minutes before sunset, nothing up to that point!
Congrats Mike and anyone else that killed today!!

Phenomenal hunt....so fast. Chasing . Buck roar. Mounting...all of it. Except I suck and missed two shots at bruiser 10 min before last light. Ughh. Two days and 8 hrs sleep total just for one chance...or two in this instance and I blow it on a great buck. Im exhausted

Serious passers remorse right now. Kicking kicking kicking myself.

After I passed on that 8, a real nice 10 chased off another 8. The doe walked right by me. The 10 ended up coming by me. I had a few minutes to think...and I over thought....FREAK. Ended up passing on 3 8 points tonight-all 2.5 yo. The 10, well I should not have passed. He's not as big as the 8 I saw there in October, but he's bigger than what I shot in Wisconsin. Absolute incredible encounters tonight. I'll be back there in the morning. I wont let him go again. Dang me.

Totally different spike was all I saw tonight. Gonna give that spot one more go in the morning then I'm relocating closer to some doe bedding on the other side of the property. I'm gonna kill this buck he just doesnt know it yet. I guess I have to buy my gun tags to be legal tomorrow. Smh.

Hunts like that just make the grind worth it. Sorry bout the wiff, but who hasn't done it a couple times. I assume clean misses so that's better than the alternative. Dude you hunt so hard it makes me feel like a wuss most days. Good luck going forward.

I ended up seeing 3 deer on this sit. One was a big doe just feeding by herself on the hillside way behind me around 4:00PM, and I had a doe at 20yrds being followed by a small buck around 4:30PM. It could have been the basket 8 pt I let walk last Thurs, I didn't get a great look at him, and here's why.

At 4:30 I heard noise that I knew was from a deer, but I just couldn't see it/them because of the thick undergrowth. But whatever it was, it was working it's way towards me. I first saw a doe, she was just nibbling on some bushes maybe 25 yrds from me, but I heard other noise behind her.
When she would take a few steps I'd hear the other deer do the same. I said to myself, that has to be a buck trailing her. Sure enough I see the other deer is a buck. It wasn't a deer I would have shot, but it was cool to see anyway.

Here's where it gets crazy! That doe fed her way to the EXACT spot where my doe was standing when I shot her on Tuesday. When she got to that spot she just stopped and started looking around. She did not know I was there because the wind was blowing from her to me, I wasn't moving, and I made no noise. She stood there for about a minute just surveying the area, then all of a sudden she spins and runs back the way she came, taking the buck with her!

I'd like to hear what you all think about that? Could the doe I shot Tuesday have left behind some kind of odor that this doe picked up on? What I witnessed was really strange, because that deer was unaware of my presence.

That's what gets us out of bed when we'd rather just roll over and go back to sleep.
    Great night!

I am not a morning person and don't typically hunt mornings if I'm not with a group or partner, but it's just too good right now to not go. I'll be settled in the blind before light.

My friend still has my field dressing gear (knife, bone saw, gloves, etc) from Wednesday when he killed a doe and didn't have his gear. That's got to bring some good luck, right?
