21 minutes from now 8 years ago, I killed my first mature whitetail buck. Still remember everything about the day, train horn blaring in the distance, the leaves rustling under his hooves. The antler jab at leaves, getting busted but giving me the second chance......

    2 more days.

Still the earliest buck kill to date as far as date goes.

Clean miss on buck. The creek tricked me. Its only 3 feet deep. Major creek crossing. Found a much better way in on the canoe. Only have to walk a couple hundred yds or less

Maybe “slept in” instead of early in. Lol just poking as well. I’m jealous, wish I was hunting

Heres a map i drew up in MS paint for my first buck bed hunt tomorrow morning! I plan on getting in and being setup a solid 1 1/2 hour before legal shooting light in case he is a smart mature buck. Mature bucks won't be cruising in daylight here for another week or two, if at all. BUT he will be returning to bed later in shooting light perhaps.

The contour lines are at 3' intervals. the black circles are mature pines and oaks. the area to the east is all mature open forest, with an occasional patch of mountain laurel, for at least 200 yards going up hill.

To the west is going downhill, similar mature woods with a few thick spots here and there.

The brown filled circles are smaller trees making the area a bit thick

The black circles are the large mature pines, hemlocks, and oak trees.

Yellow circles are the beds found for the different wind directions

    The red marks are rubs

    The green is mountain laurel

The blue is where i think he will "J-hook" into his bed.

The "X" is where I will be setting up, about 15-20 yards off of the few rubs where I think he will J hook, with the predicted West wind, and he will be vulnerable.

The orange line is my path in.
