This morning reminded me of one of those "perfect" mornings. I hope you were in a tree (because I certainly wasn't).

17 degrees, hard frost, 0 wind, high pressure with blue bird skies on October 30th. Can't ask for better conditions in my book.

Ya know when it stops being fun.....
2 flew down but I call 13 back up. Watched them play and chase around a big downed tree and the lead hens started moving closer but angling. I ranged her at 53. Using my 3in. Turkey loads in my 20 ga. That just wasn't an option. Then a couple of Jakes came in closer and turned to follow . 39 yrds is in my comfort zone. But they were pretty grouped up. When he stretched his neck out I squeezed off the shot and wings were flapping every where. He went straight up then disappeared in the other birds. They all roosted within 20 yrds of shot . Then dropped down and went over the hill. I couldn't see the jake on the ground. I waited then went to check I followed chest feathers and blood to the edge of ridge then nothing. If he lunged himself that glide down hill it could have taken him hundreds of yrds. I apparently I pull the shot left aND low. I could see a tight pattern in the ground just behind where he stood. 20191030_092135.jpg 20191030_092120.jpg 20191030_092103.jpg Wounded bird I'm so angry at my self. I've only had one bird run away but I found him an hour later. Maybe I just shouldn't hunt this year. Damn luck!

Quiet as a church mouse getting in with the dampness. Using natural camo to keep moisture off my scope. The long sit begin!

you can shoot accurately with both types of releases with the same setup? I tried a thumb release a few years back, messes my DL/anchor point up something fierce. I also ruined about 3 arrows so I tossed the thumb release back in the bin where she has sat since.

    Thanks TDK,
I'm really hoping its just a flesh wound. I only found chest feathers cut off. I did a complete grid search looking for him or more sign. So many things there to tuck up into or dips in ground to drop in. I believe he took that glide, watched them do this after I dropped a bird.
So far a miss on doe that dropped, killed the tree. Then stepping onto ladder to watch the 12 run by at 15 yrds he was under canopy under tree. Passed a few nice buck now can't get a doe near me. Now this.
Good thing.. Called those birds in using my natural voice, no calls. I'm proud of that ability.
