I had that happen a few years back. The owl swooped down and snagged a mouse. It was so cool. I wasn't the only Hunter in the woods that morning.

Had a good scout and check a few cameras. I have a really nice buck but too few pics to say he’s patterned.
Other than that, there is a spike with 14” looking spikes...soooo

I've decided to make this season about enjoying it with my father. I'm backing off my plans of walking in 2 plus miles, kayaks, mountain bikes. Life is way to short, and spending good quality time with my dad at the truck before and after the hunt is more important. I'll be hunting in some of my traditional spots I've always hunted, so I can be closer to my dad.

I wish I could get my dad out again. Back surgeries and an eye condition that has really screwed his eye up, pretty much ended his ability to get out to hunt. He's still my first phone call if I have successful hunts. Enjoy it brother.

I talked to a buddy at church today. He is needing some help with Doe management on his property. We tentatively have plans to hunt the regular archery opener on the 28th. He has a couple of food plots that are getting hammered by does. Apparently, they have had as many as 60 in the field at one time. This will be my only private land permission this season.
Last year he gave me permission for late season after Christmas. This year, it is good for all season.

Yes. They always get ya. You can hear them walking but they move so slow most of the time you never pick them up until they are close. We are used to the noise being squirrels or birds and deer but I get the daily turtle lol

Beats my leopard frog early November about 4-5 years ago. That was an absolute kick to the gut, ended up climbing down, driving to work and canceling my vacation until the following week. Seriously, frogs in a grass field in November?

Guys it is so damn hot out. I backed out going to shower eat then head to my number 2 spot. The wind is perfect for it and holds a nice buck. About a 600 yard walk in from the truck.

Always good to spend time with family. My favorite time every year is my families Illinois trip with my dad, brothers, uncles, cousins and grandpa. Especially with my grandpa getting older I look up to him so much and his hunting knowledge so I’m gonna spend as much time with him as I can while he can still hunt.

Back on stand for round 3. Same spot as last night. I set up were I saw those other deer come thru. I couldn't make them out because they were to far away. So hopefully get a better look at them. Also within shooting distance to a pond. Very hot right now.
