Non hunters will NEVER understand this. I laugh when one of my friends will ask "you came home empty handed"?

No shots fired. If I would ever say the word "epic hunt", that was it! I will tell the story as best as I can when I get home. Also that was probably the most rutting activity I've seen in a long time. Ended up having 5 bucks come by!

I didn't see anything else and I managed to get out without spooking any deer.

I'll be back in the same tree in the morning.

    That was a fun sit.

Temp down to 33 for tomorrow night. Wind starting to get a southerly hint to it which will help.

Mid October and the first frost/freeze? Give it to me every freaking year, been a few years since I could look into the woods early November.

    Chit's about to get real.....

Starting to get excited and reading Holt's adventure just upped the adrenaline. Man I'm dying to get back out but the morning is a no go. Maybe an evening hunt tomorrow and definitely Saturday morning when we are supposed to get to 32 degrees. Awesome following along with all of you!

    Story of tonight

I hunted the same spot as last night. Great buck sign around, but wanted to move into swamp were I saw all the deer. Only a 40 yard move. Get in there and only 2 live trees in site. I go to first, it's a 8" tree shaped like a Christmas tree. There was a fawn bedded at the base and it didn't hear me walk up, so I just watched it at 10 feet. Finally it didn't like something after 5 minutes and walked off. The tree would be a nightmare to climb with all the limbs, so I moved to the other one, 20 yards away. Climb up and clear out tiny limbs and dead branches. This tree was about 10" tree, but at top it was only about 4" not much to hunt out of but tons of cover.

About 5 pm I see a tree shaking at 40 yards. Put binos on it and see the buck. Then another buck walks out and into cattails, it was a small fork horn. The big buck starts going nuts rubbing trees, then makes a scrape. Then he walks back to his bed and lays down. Shortly later he gets up and hits a licking branch and goes and lays down. Shortly after that a doe comes off the ridge and walks right thru his bed. She walks straight to the other tree I was going to climb. About 30 minutes later he comes out towards were she traveled. He starts sneezing, over and over, probably 100 times easily. I just need him to take 5 steps to clear brush, can only see the tip of his nose. My arrow hits my riser and make a noise and he didn't like that. He walks back 10 yards and stands there til almost sunset. Then another buck comes in behind him and he takes off chasing this buck all over the place. They are running back and forth for 5 minutes, then final disappear over the ridge. The whole time I have does and fawns all around me.

This was all amazing, but now something else happens! The buck I was hunting last night decided to come in tonight from the opposite ridge. This was the ridge I came in on to not to bump the deer I was hunting tonight. First a spike come right to the base of my tree, so I get ready for the other buck to do the same thing. But he stops right at the spot I hunted last night. I can hear him destroying a tree and making several scraps. Less then 40 yards. I'm pretty sure he was walking right to me then hit my scent from the trail I walked in on. He went completely silent.

Right at last light I had a spike, doe and 2 fawns walk past me 5 yards. I have no idea how many deer I saw in there! It was a unreal sit! Over all if I had a grunt call with me, I sure I could have called that buck in. He was being very aggressive.
