    Wel kinda a miracle we found him, it rained last night so no blood. He went 150 or so yards. Be my budys biggest deer to date so we pretty excited to find it!

    This screams shoulder hit to me. I have only seen a deer stop as you described once, and it was a shoulder hit. My guess is when you thought it was sniffing the impact site it was actually wanting to pull the remaining shaft out. You mentioned it was dragging its leg, my guess is you pinned its shoulder joint and locked its leg up.

    I know it's likely not what you want to hear, but this is how I interpret it given the details.

    It's still possible you will find him, do post results regardless.
