Got skunked. Pulled cam card and saw a good deal of day activity.

Rsn into one of the logging company guys. He had just finished bulldozing the road into the tract im in. Said they would be logging soon. Guess this weekend will be my last. Have hunted there over 20 years. Sniff. Will be easy to get my set out. Road is about 100 yards away

unless admission standards have changed greatly in the past 20 years (that hurts really bad to type) out of all those your #1 is the easiest to get into. Not saying that as an insult or a bad thing; I am simply saying you have the best chance to get into your #1 choice.

    Good huntin' nearby, too!

Not at our place but within 10 miles I saw a decent buck trailing some does on my way home from work last night.

Anyone see that buck shot in Illinois? Might be some new record. 51 scoreable points I think. Didn’t read the full story but the guy who shot it has only shot 2 other small bucks and an eleven pointer. I love when average guys like that shoot giants. I’ll try to post article later. Busy at work. Blah.

Sucks he really ruined the journey taking it with a gun. Prolly only hunted 1 day and shot it 200+ yards away

Ehh, if I saw that thing in my spot I would be using a bazooka if that’s what it took. Most guys will never lay eyes on a deer like that, let alone get within bowrange of a buck of that caliber. I don’t consider his hunt ruined in any way.

Do you have a youtube channel by chance?

Been looking for some flint knapping tutorials and was wondering if you had any videos out there on your broadheads?

I can't imagine you would be shooting any of them stamped out blades or them CNC milled riser body bows with 80% let off that can shoot out to 45-50yds.

Really starting to get interested in that true traditional hunting of Boone and Crocket bucks.

Wow sry didn’t think I would offend a Mod for a bowhunting forum who’s slogan is bow hunt or die. Didn’t think of starting a YouTube channel, planned on watching yours BHOD. Yes I do have a recurve I use for smaller game but big game yes I use one of those compound bows you promote called Mathews. All my comment was referring to was that most of us on this forum and following are idk big into archery and harvesting animals with a bow probably because we find it more rewarding and challenging. Often times we put the hours in the stand, scouting hunting areas thoroughly all year round, stick it out threw rough elements, only to get within 30 yards of animal that masters eluding predators with a gun and etc. I just thought us bow hunters were of a different breed.sorry if I offended anyone.

Just to be clear, I'm not a mod, part of the BHOD crew or affiliated with anyone or anything, brand or otherwise. Just a plain member so don't use my comments to base your opinion on them. I don't speak for them in any way.

You did not offend me, I just found the comment unnecessary. I haven't read the story on the buck but doubt it's going to be a top record when all is said and done. I just don't get the whole prejudgement of a hunters ability or dedication/commitment to the hunt.

Here in IL it was just recently passed to where you can use archery equipment during firearm seasons, private land only and must use a firearm permit. A lot of people still are not aware of it and prefer to hunt whenever possible. For the longest time only a few counties were bow only and allowed bow hunting. All the attributes you stated could have been met aside from the weapon, but since it was a gun he's a slob and pop shot that buck at tree hunnit and fiddy yards on a sprint straight away.

I get the same way when people criticize a small buck, should have shot a doe, that's why we can't get big bucks. They get offended about a kill 7 states away that affects their hunting zero.

I've killed deer with a bow, crossbow, shotgun and .44 mag. All were in bow range amd from a bow stand, and only two I would not have taken shots with bow. One was 45yds and the other was behind a thin leafy branch.

Wasn't nothing against ya, just hate the snide comments made that add nothing to it other than bitterness or jealousy.

I had a similar view, but no picture, once.

Was just out of highschool and drove through a wildlife sanctuary doing things young and dumb just out of highschool kids do.

On the way out took the road towards the lake and it has a tall almost levee like hill paralleling the road. Seen a big buck run across the road in front of me and up the hill so I slowed down. He got to the top of the hill and it was just about dark, he just stood there as I stopped. Perfect sillouette, just a shadow of a bucks body and big rack against a yellowish, orange and purple skyline.

One of those memories/views you never forget.
