Live close to the border and hunt another state after killing a buck. :)

Good luck PM shift! Hard to believe it’s still November with how much this thread has slowed down. It’s killing me not being in a stand the last week but family comes first. Played Clark Griswald this weekend hanging Christmas lights and decorated up at the church yesterday afternoon, now my 5 yr old has strep and it looks like my wife is coming down with it...

By next week it slows a lot. Thanksgiving weekend is the last big push for most hunters. I will still be out there grinding till Dec 31 trying to get my target buck down.

Keep it going guys! I’ll be back this weekend and just got access to a new area for 3 weeks starting the day after Christmas. I’ll be hunting till I can get the freezer full or I’m out of days to hunt.

Well the boy we took shot at 2 spikes and a doe today lol no blood drawn. It was so awesome though. He loved it. Kept telling us how huge those bucks were haha. Buddy said after he shot the first time he got up and started hooting and hollering in excitement so he thought he just dropped it right there. He asked him , “did you drop him.” (It was behind him and he didn’t wanna move) and the boy said, “heck idk.” Hahahah lots of laughs and smiles today. He’s hooked for life.

30 plus does tonight and one little 8. Soon I'll start killing some of those does, but for now I'm big buck only hunting. Fun time.

Forgot to add I saw 18 deer today. All does and 1 1/2 year olds. Same thing as always on that property this year. Still baffles me. Also almost rock bottomed a trespasser lol first time I’ve seen someone literally sprint away. I even got an orange buckmaster hat out of the deal ha.

So what's everyones take on the secondary rut?

You have early does and late does and I guess a plethora of does coming in between.

You would think all of the early does would get bred, same I guess could be said for the late does.

So would you consider second rut cycle from what appeared to be the peak rut?

It's always confused me a bit. I mean, if not all of the early cycling does and late ones get bred wouldn't you have pretty much a 50-60 day constant breeding period?

I've seen one mature buck from stand after firearms season(s) and that was Dec. 20th.

I don't plan on filling my buck tag unless it is a mature buck, just trying to figure out how everyone predicts the secondary rut. Hunting every day I am off isn't feasible, so trying to plan a 2-3 day weekend. Don't have any known late food sources so I'll still be dependent on seeking.

Here in Ohio It always seems like the first week of December is pretty hot. Seems like I always catch a buck running a group of doe this week. Granted it’s usually always the week of gun season but it’s usually a great week for me as far as buck/rut activity.

I wish I knew cls. I always have to be in the stand on the 22nd of November. After that I'm keying on food sources.

This weekend(Thurs-Sun) is the final firearm season where bow hunting is closed(except for a few northern bow only counties). After that I can hunt until Jan. 20th.

The following weekend is muzzleloader but my uncle was the only one that ever hunted during it so I will pretty much have the place to myself after Sunday.

I plan on playing whack a doe that weekend, and unless I see some sort of activity may be done for the season. I've got so much meat in the freezers right now it's ridiculous. If my brother will pay processing I may hunt longer, but I have learned 3 deer for one person is way too much

This has been a crazy November weatherwise. We're sitting at 11.4" of snow for the month and well below normal for temps.

Going by all the bitching the past few years on warm temps and needing cold during the rut, this year should have been the best rutting year in decades

Seems like it has been a lengthy one, just not a flip of the light switch event.

I think this weekend might be a good opportunity. Should still be some rutting going on and could be the last decent temps before it's just downright frigid. The gun hunters usually get some deer moving around at least.
I'm really hoping to get out for 2-3 days later this week. I wouldn't mind taking another doe, and still got a buck tag to fill

This weekend is no go for me(no firearm tag), guess I could hunt Lake Sangchris(Christian County) if I wanted as they are open to bow hunting, but I have no clue on how it works there anymore. Used to be earn a buck, and 5 point one side restrictions on bucks. Heard they got rid of earn a buck but the 5 a side still exists.

I can get a doe on private without a doubt, I don't even know the hunting areas at Sangchris  Was too restrictive for my liking so never really gave it a thought.
