Sounds like a couple quick passes with a chainsaw to open up couple small lanes this winter might be the ticket? Those thick spots really are little gems.

Right after the storm passes should be awesome. That’s not to say you won’t be successful in middle of it. My experience they hunker down in heavy snow but if they’re still rutting then who knows....anything is possible.

I got out there to move the stand and come to find out I need to do the same thing Shock. In the off season I'll need to whack some trees.

    That's awesome.

I've never caught caught nor tasted walleye but hear they're a fine eating fish.

This is a confirmed buck bedding area that has produced every year since I found it 8 years ago. I don't want to do a thing, it's perfect just the way it is! Lol I made the mistake of setting up a stand in it about 5 years ago. Although I shot a nice buck out of it, it was messed up after that. I hunted that same stand all the time. Now I only go in when I see bucks in there and always hunt a different tree every sit depending on wind. It took many years to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Thanks I plan to hopefully get another sit in there in the next couple weeks. I know you didn't know. I wasn't trying to blast you, just explaining that it one of those rare spots that is very hard to find. Sorry if I came off that way. The cool thing is its only about 1 acre in size.

Not at all. I knew you weren’t. I have rhino skin I can take a blasting when I deserve one every now and then anyhow. So my question is how do you hunt that spot? If your stand is right in it you have to sneak in it suuuper duuuper early? I’d imagine it would be too risky for evening?

It took years but it's a prime spot late morning. Bucks seem to take there time coming back to it. It's hundreds of acres of thick over growth surrounding it that the does like to bed in. I actually hunt about 80 - 100 yards away for does, then when I start seeing the bucks in there, I move in right away. It's a seasonal bed, so there not in there all the time. The next month is the best time of the year. In the evening, It's a spot with right wind I can sneak in there to 30 yards of were they bed and setup, just got to take it slow. Then wait for them to get up and hopefully walk my way. Mornings they are rarely in there til after light and as long as I'm setup before first light I'm good. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The last 3 sits( 2 observation sits, 1 in the bed sit) I have seen 8 bucks this past week.

Decided to take advantage of the weather front that was headed our way this morning and do a little calling.
First stand 3 minutes in and I was in business. Went to make another set only to find out I need a new battery pack for the foxpro. Have one order d and will be back after them soon.

I grew up mainly stream fishing for trout. The lakes were did fish were trout, bass, perch, pike, pickerel and pan fish.

Living in the south the past 30 years a walleye is about as rare as hens teeth.

You’ve Never had walleye... I’m sorry to hear that. Such a delicacy. Deep fried with tartar sauce and French fries. Nothing better.
