    Happy thanksgiving guys!

My vacation on the lease this week did not go according to plan. I hunted Sunday- Wednesday and ended up leaving early on Wednesday just for being burned out. I did not see a deer the entire time and have not seen one since the first weekend of November. I've only seen 5 deer in total this year which is extremely depressing. The acorns are still dropping here in Tx which is absolutely crazy for this time of year. The last two years, we had an extreme amount of rainfall to help the acorn crop. Every where I look, there are acorns all over the ground and big ones at that. I've even tried to hunt over these areas and still haven't seen any movement. Hell, I even resulted to "slob" hunt an afternoon and morning just to pop a doe before our doe season ends this weekend on some of our best gun stands and did not even see anything move. With that being said the deer do not have to travel very far to get food and I think due to that, most of the movement is at night on cameras. The guys on the lease have said "they have never seen it like this before, and this is the hardest hunting conditions they have ever seen"

I'm taking some time off to regroup, I'm hoping to come back in December and have better results, just frustrating that my season has not gone according to plan. I've never gone through November without seeing DOE!!! That is crazy to even say that. Good luck to all those that are in the stand.

Don't feel badly, I have roughly 55 hours on stand so far, and I've yet to see a shooter buck! I've seen only a couple spikes, a couple 4pts, a spindly 6pt, and a basket 8pt. The one decent buck, which I have 5 pics of over the course of two weeks, hasn't shown himself during the daylight. Still plenty of season left though. :tu:

Well nothing moved by me this morning. Went and checked out another area before heading home and stumbled across some monster rubs and jumped doe in the same area. May be hunting that area for the next couple days. Put 2 trail cameras in the area to see what all is coming through there.

Preaching to the choir. Same here in central Oklahoma. Mature bucks just are not moving much yet and I dont think the does are hot since most are still carrying their fawns. Weird season. And the persimmons! Trees are still loaded! That buck my neighbor kid got, when I helping him gut it I went ahead and cut the stomach open afterwards, nothing but acorns. This has been one of the largest acorn masts I have ever seen. And it's not like in years past where I could just set up on a particular grove that produced well, they all produced well! Lol!

I'm really hating to get down and go to my folks. This has been the best day, all season, for me.

We went into a couple of our creek bottoms to pull camera and literally in some spots the acorns covered the ground by the hundreds. Its like a second batch of them arrived. Hell not even much squirrel movement on the ground. They are still picking them out of the trees! All I can hope is next year it's not as good.

We need to hear details of how a hunting day could be better than going to your folks for Thanksgiving?

That really is an awesome bow kill, and doing it the hard way is just icing on the cake! Thanks for sharing that.

Gotcha. Didn't mean to pry. I just thought you might be seeing tremendous amounts of deer, and or, some nice bucks.
