Update. Nothing moving here so far. Probably moving my stand in a bit. Also the ball game across the way is 14-10 and Pete is a scoring machine.

Well called it a morning...same little guys I was seeing the past few weeks on that property. Just one of those places where you know eventually a big boy will show but it is disheartening not seeing one this year out there yet. I work tonight and tomorrow night then I’m off for seven days. In those seven days I think I’m gonna mix private and public. I due for meat and Ohio’s new law is you can only shoot one doe on public land and it has to be before December 2nd. Might make that my focus next week. Who knows, maybe a big fella will finally show for me if I stop thinking about them ha see ya in a few days fellas. Good luck.

Anyone ever just keep out a bunch of 20ft climbing sticks then use a lone wolf for all of them? Pros seem like a quick setup without the weight of carrying it all in or a climber.

That's a good one but no. Wife asked how long I was gonna be on stand and I replied I'll hang around as long as you will let me...the rest just came to mind.

And it was all...that I could do...to keep from cryin.

Just a quick story on yesterday's buck. I have had him on our small property since 2015. This property is big woods and is fun to hunt but certainly challenging most of the time. He has a notch in his right ear so he was easy to identify. In 2015 I passed him because he was young, guessing a 2 1/2 year old maybe 100 inches at the time. Didn't see him in 2016 but had trail cam pics of him, he was getting a little bigger now mid 120's . In 2017 he was very camera friendly and I started to pinpoint the area he really liked hanging out and moving through. This year he blew up, pushing 150. During the 2017 season I saw him once at 40 yds but didn't like the shot so I let him walk, and 2 more times following does, so close. This year he was a little more elusive until late October when he would usually show up during daylight to start checking for early does. His rack was a bit smaller this year so I think he was starting to go backwards, now high 130's or low 140's. This year I saw him on the hoof for the first time in late October, had him at 15 yds but couldn't shoot because it was too thick, again so close. Then as some of you know he started taunting me by showing up in daylight when I was hunting, or had just left the stand... Then the MN gun season came... Yep, nocturnal. The good news he was still alive and I was getting pics of him. In the mean time I killed a doe on Nov 3 because I thought there was no way he was gonna show up in daylight again. I stuck with it throughout the gun season hunting with my bow, but it was really hard. About a week into the gun season I think I saw him but wasn't 100% sure, then I thought there still might be a chance to see him again. Then yesterday he made the final mistake, I was sitting in my favorite stand and the area where he felt really comfortable moving through. It was about 10 in the morning when all of the sudden a doe came barreling from the north and stopped just to my left, I thought yes, that usually mean's she being chased! I looked back to the north and low and behold there he was, coming fast. Knowing the doe would bust me because I needed to stand and reach for my bow, I went for it. She took off but he was still on a line right to me. I let him get past me so he was quartering away and when I released I watched the arrow hit him high midway back but it was a pretty steep angle and he was quartering away. There was no blood but I watched him drop 40 yards later. Finally I had got it done.

No good news. Tracked him over 800 yards with very little blood. Found 2 beds with very little blood. Tracked him to the river. Walked down another half mile where we could cross. Went back up to last blood and did not find any more. Looked close on both sides in case he was in the river. Not enough blood to make me think he is going to die. Went farther than I thought we needed to because I wanted my son to realize you don't give up first time the trail gets tough.
