Then going back and walking the thicket

Don't get overly discouraged. 2nd buck I shot last year stopped at opposite side hide without breaking through. Arrow came out but broadhead and an inch of the shaft were snapped off. That is one reason I don't completely buy into the snapped shaft always equals depth of penetration.

    Good luck.

Starting to snow pretty good here. Heard a couple deer moving threw in the dark. Hoping the snow has them moving

They'll often double back from where they came from as well

I had a hit on the scapula on a buck five or six years ago. very little blood, never found the arrow.

if you hit the scapula/shoulderblade, at that distance, it would not break through. the arrow would deflect along the bone, staying right under the skin, and most likely the deer pulled it out, breaking it. I'm pretty sure that deer is alive. are you sure about the penetration?

Last night while I was hunting, I saw a little buck with an arrow sticking out of it. The arrow is on the off side, so I didn't get a great look. It seems like a STEEP quartering away shot, with the arrow under the skin, but outside the ribs...probably in the backstrap. I watched him for over a half hour and he never seemed injured. You guys think he'll be ok? I'm guessing 2/3 of the arrow was sticking out. Will it fester out? Should I shoot him given the chance?

Burr oak will have bigger acorns than a white as well. Big caps = Burr

So, obviously being in Tx, I don't necessarily have this problem to deal with, but for you guys in the north and that battle the extreme cold temps. Will the temperatures affect anything on your bow limbs or the ability to even draw back if stuff is frozen?? May be a silly question, but seems like that snow and harsh temps would be pretty hard on a bow.

Personally I would shoot it if given a chance, done it several times. You never really know, might live or die, they are pretty tough animals. Plus then there is no chance someone else will see it and think “those damn hunters”!

I agree. I would shoot it just to avoid the negative perception if a nonhunter sees it walking around like that.

Damn bro, sorry to hear. I gotta say, you gave it a hell of an effort and made every possible attempt to recover her. Hats off to you my friend.
