Been out for about an hour and a half now. The only thing running around here is my nose, good thing I have this sweet snot catcher mustache.

I think Thursday is going to be the day. Wind changes back to out of the south and the moon is right.

I will hit it for the last time in Kentucky in the AM. I have to get my trailer shut down for the winter and we have a decent winter weather system moving in tomorrow afternoon. Now or never!!!!

As I’m staring tag soup right in the face, I can’t help but feel a bit disappointed. Since my first year bowhunting, now 6 years ago, I have tagged 2 bucks each year. I don’t say that in arrogance or cockiness. However, I’m not fooling anyone in saying I’m not disappointed. I most certainly am. The past two years I have been swimming for my high school. I hate it, despise it. However, it’s helping me get into college and it’s something I need to continue until I graduate regardless of where my priorities would like to be (hunting). Swimming consists of 4 hour practices, 6 days a week until February. It begins next Monday. I am approaching a depressing end to my last bowhunting season before college. And an unsuccessful one at that. Despite this, I honestly can’t say I would’ve hunted any harder to accomplish my goal. I hunted in just about everything Mother Nature could’ve thrown my way given the time on the calendar. And I would have continued this far into the late season if I could. But I can’t. My goal this year was to harvest a mature buck, rather than a potential-filled 3 year old. I passed over 45 bucks this season and got some incredible video of different deer. I guess I’m writing this in an effort to make myself feel better for passing so many young bucks. I could’ve settled, but I held myself to a standard regardless of temptation.

I still have 5 days left until I can only hunt a day and a half per week. There is time. But time is slim and the most likely outcome is not in my favor. It’s been incredible to listen to you guys on this forum and learn for yet another year. I will be on frequently still, but regardless, I love you guys.

It does seem simple, but I much prefer to be pin point precise in my aiming, I also try to shoot all year, multiple times a week, to ensure my ability. Im far from perfect, but i would rather be aiming at a specific spot than just putting aiming at all the vital area

It kind of sucks at the moment but I can guarantee the lessons learned in failure often have a more positive impact than lessons learned in victory, bowhunting is tough and thats why we love it. you should wear this season as a badge of honor- all the time you put in is a guarantee of lessons learned that will result in stronger character and success in the future. keep ya head up killer. If im ever in town Ill get you a beer....oh wait, nvm (quietly avoids Brett...)

You did your best with the time allotted...be content. If it was easy, it wouldn't be so much fun. Enjoy each hunt for what it is. Maybe this season will make you appreciate the others even more. Now you will probably be more driven in the off season, like you needed that! Get out and scout, look for rubs, and sheds in March and April. Get more tree stands up this spring and cut shooting lanes. This summer you can glass and scout...the season never ends. GOTTA LOVE IT.

I hope you can learn to enjoy swimming. Talk to your teammates and focus on what you have in common, find the good in them, learn to push yourself even when you dont want to, and simply like the experience and exercise.

You're a great young man Shane.

Now kill a buck this weekend!

My app is acting really weird. I posted this earlier but don’t see it.

Taking a much needed weekend off from deer hunting to hit hard water. Ice fishing is finally back! 3 full days chasing early season walleyes. One of my favorite times of the entire year (up there with hunting openers).

DIY Sportsman uses it as does (did?) Ranch Fairy. Probably fine for close range but you start getting out past 25 and seems pretty loosy-goosy to me. I'm sure if you've never used any normal sight system before it would come easy but seems counter-intuitive for those of us who grew up on "normal" pins.

I guess that's something I never thought on before- does your eye find the pin first and then the spot you want to hit, or vice versa? For me it's FRONT SITE FRONT SITE FRONT SITE then the target; like a pistol.
