Nah not going to the land in Oklahoma this year. Between all my vacations this year it kinda killed my rutcation. Plus the land owners nephews were starting to get pissy with us that me and my buddy were killing some of their "hitlisters" on their property before their gun season started. We paid just like the rest of them, sorry they didn't bow hunt and couldn't get there before gun season lol. Maybe next year.

Yeah, Arkansas is definitely a different story.

And as was mentioned tracking is definitely a concern in weather. Blood trails washed away in rain or covered up with snow or high winds. Shot selection definitely becomes the deciding factor if choosing to sit.

I won't sit in a rain for that very reason, and if I did I'd hold myself to 20yds or less and only on unalert deer.

That's a good looking deer, has it all. Dark horns, height, brows, decent spread and that summer coat.

As you said, at least you won't be chasing a ghost next year trying to locate him.

Yea the neighbor and I exchange a lot of info. He's a good dude and the local game warden at that lol. I at least know that he's not alive anymore so I can focus my efforts elsewhere.

Yes, have a couple big 150+ bucks get pics of all year. Now the one disappeared and the smaller of two as just showed up again on camera the 28th if Oct. Happens almost every year. Think cameras have their place and can be useful. But can be frustrating

Good luck tomorrow Swamp! I have decided to hold out tomorrow and not hunt the pouring rain. Stinks but I think it is smart as far as no blood trail. Also, I will spend more time with the family and hopefully get some brownie points with the wife :) I will be hunting vicariously through you and everyone else on here tomorrow. SS...if anyone deserves a deer, it's you bro (or sbcableguy). Good luck and get it done!!! KILL!!!

So long story short, my buddy moved here recently, he's grown up hunting but never dont a buck with a bow. He sat with me last week and we got skunked, i was afraid he was gonna want to come again haha. Thankfully he did though so he came for the afternoon, i say all morning and saw nothing, i was afraid we would get skunked again but around 3 a little 6 came in right to 20 but had me pegged the whole way, thankfully he didn't blow out just meandered away. There was a doe with him who ran off but never blew. I was pretty bummed thinking i blew his shot for about an hour till i hear something behind me and look up to see him at full draw. He was set up 40 yards away. I pulled up my binos and saw a nice rack fly by at the shot he spined him so we got over and put another one in him quick. When we turned him over we saw another hunter had hit him low. Pretty cool seeing that. I was really happy he was able to get it done tonight! At least 1 positive about this cold is I’ve always missed some great walleye fishing because I’m always in the woods in October and November. Got 3 tonight but all were 17”. Need to be 18 to keep.

Quick story about this mornings buck. Had a nice 8 point with a doe hang out for 20 min, they left down the trail. Saw a few other doe by my other stand and thought maybe I should move.
Thankfully I'm lazy and didnt move, I see this buck trotting across an open field, into the creek and onto my side of the property.
He's about to take that same path as the earlier buck/doe and I panic...I give a light snort weeze or what I think is a snort weeze, he pays no attention to it. I get a little louder and he starts my way, not on a mission, just walking all cool like.
This stand is not setup for the small ridge where hes walking, it's a crap spot. So there we are, 15 yards from each other at eye level. He is not paying me any attention, I give the half ass bleat sound and he stops...and a dang 3 inch tree is blocking his leg. I had a small window to shoot, settled pin and triple checked letting the arrow fly.
Good shot, he turned and I saw blood dumping out of the exit hole as well.
60 yards is all he had. Score one for laziness today, glad I didn't move to the other stand.

0245 Roll call!! (I hit the snooze button once )

Nice and cold at 25 degrees. Hard frost.

Realized last night while I was trying to fall asleep, that yesterday was the Sunday before shotgun season. Which means yesterday was scouting day, for the orange army.

But I have no control over that so I’ll let it go.

Bringing lord Stanley with me this morning!!
