Set up in a funnel this evening. Feel like I made a lot of noise getting in here. Hope something strolls by.

Congrats to all those who have killed this weekend! Man, didn’t check this thread for about 18 hrs and had about 30 pages to try and catch up on...couldn’t do it.

So had a great hunt last night. I ended up hunting from the ground on the edge of a nice travel corridor next to thick bedding. Never hunted in there before but it worked with the wind. Ended up seeing 3 does and a nice young 8pt all within shooting range. One of the does came in hot and dang near ran me over until she diverted around me at 5 yds.

I get a text from my buddy that’s in my best stand that he shot a buck at 5:30 so I get packed up and go to help him. He tells me the buck came on a bee line to his tree after he had climbed down out of the stand. He hid behind a tree and leaned out and poked him at about 18 yds. He said the shot was good but the buck was quartering hard towards him and the arrow was sticking out as he ran off across the field and into the trees where he thought he heard him crash. No blood at the impact site so we decide to head to the truck and give the buck some time.

On the walk back, we are walking along talking and a doe steps out of the trees at 20 yds and is just staring at us. He says “hey I’m gonna shoot her”, I say “ go ahead”. So he gets an arrow knocked and can barely see his pins due to it getting dark. He lets it fly and wham...smokes her. Got 1 lung & liver, complete pass thru. She went about 100 yds and piled up. We go retrieve her first, get her field dressed and loaded up in the truck and then go to find his buck.

Found him 20 yds into the tree line. It was one of the bucks I was hoping he would get a shot at. Big bodied old 8 pt with crab claws that is going down hill. Not a wall hanger but a huge body and a heck of a first buck! We were hugging and high fiving like a couple of dorks in the woods. It was just and awesome night and my buddy is still on cloud nine!

Only bad thing about his double is that we were up till 2:30 this morning skinning & boning out both deer, but we got it all done finally and still made it to church this morning!
Sorry for being so long winded, just wanted to share it with you all & i’m still really happy for my friend.

I use to run public land in Western NY and used one all the time. It was an API. I loved it.
These sticks and ladders have made me soft.

I think I'm going with a LW assault Hand climber next year for the long hauls into the thick and nasty. I'll get a flip top with a hamore seat for it for the rut.

The only negative i see is the handclimber seat does not flip up to stand. I saw ways how to do it on YT though. So many straight trees where I hunt. An Assault hang on w/ sticks would not really benefit me much unless I was going in a thick hemlock tree. But I would be making so much noise doing so, it wouldn't be worth it.

Finally had my chance this morning in a nice three year old 8 point. He was probably 130”. I grunted and a doe came right in. He was about 30 yards behind her. Stuck his head and chest out of the honey suckle and let out a big grunt. He never gave me a shot. When there wasn’t a mess to shoot through he was too quartered. I honestly didn’t want him anyway lol but was gonna take him. The wife is getting a little antsy with me ha..
